I am sir, but I drink to excess and I am the worse for any kind of sustained comprehension or meaningful ongoing intelligence. Also, I thought he was going to play today (it is actually Oct 2) to show he is ready for the playoffs.

It looks like Lowrie 3B and Woodward 2B get the first shots to audition for the playoff edition of the jack-of-all-infield-positions.

For the long term, I'm more interested in seeing how Lowrie bats LH against Halladay.

For some reason, all those "L's" in "Lowrie bats LH against Halladay" amuse me.

I seem to recall Sox Scout pulling up some magic link earlier in the summer where the Sox released info regarding Lowrie's strength test results of his wrist. Is any similar info along them lines out there now?

There is no doubt Green is a major contributor to this club getting to the playoff's this year, but if healthy Lowrie is a clear upgrade in serving as the utility guy at this point. Hope Jed isn't rushing things and he can serve in this role this coming month.

Also, pretty good Theo interview found in the 'Love JD...hate JD' thread. Tops was the JD discussion, but also Theo touched on many other items, a little on Tek, Seabass, Angels running game, Ortiz and Theo's 7 year run as GM along with other things. It's 24 minutes and worth listening to. Merci beaucoup, Scout

I hope nobody invokes "Reverse Lock" because in this case it would be going too far. The bigger question is - Will the Sox even get any base runners tonight (LOL)

If the hottest team going into the playoffs were a mortal lock to win it all, then the Colorado Rockies would have been World Champions in 2007.

As long as the Red Sox stay healthy and sharp for the meaningful games next week, it's all good.

Colorado was hot in the AAAA league called the NL. Being hot does not translate when you move up.

The Angels have no pen, Darren Oliver is their best reliever. Their starting rotation is good enough for the regular season, but they don't have a shut down ace like Beckett and Lester. Also, their sluggers, Hunter, Vlad and Morales are hackers and will swing at pitches at the eyeballs in clutch situations.

In one dream scenario I have Tek is the starting catcher in game 1 and throws 5 of 5 runners out. His post game comments are "I was just pretending during the regular season since those games meant nothing, and this misled the Angels into thinking they could run at will in the playoffs. They fell for it. Hardy har har".

Seriously. it's all going to come down to 4-7 games against the MFY in the ALCS, everything before and after is gravy and icing on the cake. When the MFY and Red Sox play, it's basically a roll of the dice and who can get the umpires on their side. Best team does not always win, so there is hope.

Until last week, the Angels were the only MLB team remaining without a 4 game losing streak. In your dream scenario, it appears that you should give the Halo's more credit.

Woodward is leaving the team tomorrow to be with his pregnant wife. So unless everything goes quickly and he's back with the team on Friday, Lowrie has a great chance these next few days to prove it should be him.

So, if Halladay throws a perfecto against this line up: (1) does it count, and (2) did we just drive up his trade value?

Good point. Probably is. If he has a future, it's probably in the NL, if that.

Someone earlier thought it might be Lackey and not Hunter who said that the better team lost the ALDS in -08. No no no. It was Hunter, I remember it clearly, and have disliked him intensely ever since.

By the way, Pedro just walked in a run.

His first at-bat against Halladay didn't make it any more likely that the Red Sox would unretire #9 and give it to him.

Wake throws a Leephus pitch at 57. Lowrie flunks his first across-the-diamond throw after a good diving stop.

Halladay's strike zone is obscenely generous: all three called strikes were rulebook balls.

It's not sporting to bunt on Wake. mad.gif

This is pretty fun. I'm switching back and forth between the Sox game and watching a good friend's son catch for the Twins. Jose Morales' dad lives here on St. Croix and we've been e-mailing back and forth the past couple of nights.

Of course, his first at bat of the night.....bases loaded, one out and he hits into a double play.

It's still pretty cool though. He's a good kid.

Make certain you get one run to be sure Halladay doesn't need to go more than 9 innings to get his no hitter.

Lowrie is short-arming his throws from a sidearm angle. From shortstop he usually throws with a cleaner release and from a higher angle. I think playing at 3B has gotten into his head and he's overthinking.

I didn't have any doubts that the Sox would somehow, eventually clinch the WC. So I didn't think it would be a big deal when it actually happened, but damn I feel so much more relaxed watching tonights game!
