Sox will *never* win the World Series!"
Don't make my daughter cry again bitches, take the first step tonight - clinch baby!

And by all means enjoy the celebration. Because sadly it may be the Sox ONLY celebration this season.
The past week hasn't made me feel too good about our chances against ANYBODY in the post season.
Also, I really thought the MFY could be had but it looks like recent developments argue against that.

Even at 6 she knows that a WS team doesn't have Nick Green at SS. We should give her a membership.

Really, you could just slot any SEC West school in there and the result would be the same.
(In the interest of full disclosure I work in the Athletic Dept. at one of these schools)

Her most profound thought came when she was only 2 and watching the 2005 playoffs with me. After
Manny flew out to end a rally and things looked bleak for the Sox they showed a close-up of Manny walking
out to the outfield.
She asked me, "Daddy, is Manny sad?"
I said, "I think so".
To which she responded, "Would he like some ice cream?"
I thought about it briefly and realized that out of everybody, Manny would most definitely want some ice cream right now.
So my daughter walked up to the TV with her thumb and forefinger and inch apart and said "Here Manny,
have some ice cream."
The kid has lived a charmed life, 6 years old, 2 World Series wins, none for MFY's. (although most of her life was spent in Bush era so there is that)

The thing is, in the Red Sox mind they already clinched the WC. I think the celebrations started when Paps fell down in the BP and hurt his back. The past 2 weeks have simply been ST mode for them, even if it appears they had their best lineup on the field. They just did not care. Call them the 2009 Drews.
They went into a 7 game stretch of 4 against KCR and 3 against MFY only 4 down in the loss column, and blew the first game (made me want to call the Feds to investigate). Some folks said on this thread the games were meaningless and were relieved. Thanks god said one since he wanted his BP kept low until the playoffs.
Now here we are, having lost 6 of 8 games, and the magic number is 1, for the WC. This game against the lowly Blue Jays is now meaningful to some of the same folks despite the WC being a slam dunk. The threads enough to want to turn you into a KCR fan, or at least a Quantum Red Sox fan.
The most disappointing thing really is that if the Red Sox had won 6 of the last 10 games against the MFY instead of losing 9 of 10 we would have a 1 1/2 lead over the MFY and the magic number would be 4 (and the WC already clinched).
The good thing about the playoffs is the best team does not always win. Even the KCR would have a 20% chance of winning against the LAA in the ALDS. Management has figured out that winning the WC is enough to keep folks happy, and so thats the baseline. They go into every season with a goal of winning the WC, not the division, and then rolling the dice in the playoffs. If they win the division thats just icing on the cake, so long as the boys don't have to work too hard for it.

There was a game 4 last year. I see what you're saying, but you know, they're not to be taken for granted...at all.

So I guess we are back to .... just one pitch at a time, one inning at a game.
