Enough futzing about. Let's get this done. No more focussing on the future or the past...

It's NOW time....

If each game is a coin toss, the Red Sox have a 1 in 4096 possibility of forsaking the wild card the easy way and having to play a one-game playoff. I'm not interested in finding out when I start to get tense. As I said in the last thread, I favor Tito's approach to the end of this season, but when it's there for the taking, take it. Then rotation-setting and off-days and early substitutions with impunity.

Win it so us scoreboard-watchers can more properly focus on the AL Central and the NL wild card (both of those races might be intensely less interesting after tomorrow anyway).

And stop making me root for LAA; it hurts.

Let's get the best lineup out there (same as last night--Kotchman for the healing Lowell, the infield best suited for the groundball pitcher), bash Romero (like they have all year), get Buchholz a win against the Blue Jays (like they have since he's come up), and make with the celebrating. In though the front door, win it on the field!

Clay Buchholz means no Varitek (it better!), so today must be a good day.

In other news, Tony Masserotti is still talking in the NESN booth...he didn't realize the game got called hours ago and everyone else went home.

If you really have any anxiety about winning the WC with 6 games coming up against the Blue Jays and Indians while Texas has 3 with the LAA and the magic number 1, well, shame on you.

And don't worry about Tek playing, V-Mart gets the crappy teams, remember? laugh.gif

Rest them all Tito, with Clay going, the games in the bag. Maybe the Red Sox owners will give the fans a taste of the champagne after that abortion of a game last night.

Given that they are a 'virtual lock' to clinch, I think it is better this way...it is always nice to clinch after you win vs. clinch at 1AM when another team locks it up for you. Of course that assumes they win tonite. Luckily they have ace-in-the-making Clay going, confidence is high

Is this like the Predator-version of "Where's Waldo?"

In college, we used to have a friend that we nicknamed Waldo. We lived next door to a huge parking lot where they would throw concerts from time to time. We used to dress Waldo up as Waldo, send him into the crowd, go up to our roof and then take a bunch of panoramic pictures. They were surprisingly awesome, and his wife even still lets him keep them up on the wall of his home office.

Waldo now works in Dallas. He hates it, especially the sports fan (it is not easy being an Eagles fan in Cowboy central). His coworkers also support the Rangers. A win today eliminates the Rangers, which would make Waldo very happy.

Win it for Waldo!

See what I did there?

I don't. And you can look at last night's game thread for proof, when other people were expressing concern on this topic. I just like it when things are official.

Also, I would like to thank the powers that be in MLB for their ALCS scheduling.

No game on the 21st which is my anniversary.

No game on the 23rd which is when I'm taking the little woman to see David Copperfield for our anniversary. She gets to see David Copperfield and I get to make her mad by saying he's gay.

We might be bettered served if we had an Angels/Rangers game thread in this spot.

But I do like the fact the Sox are coming up with all kinds of injuries to help get their key players rested for the playoffs.

Is that a reference to the cheapness of that car, or the fact that it could blow up when rear-ended?

The Red Sox can't be eliminated in the regular season now. Worst possible scenario is a one game play-off. Relax.

Going to the game tonight. Last game this year, and might be the last game I get to go to till 2011. All my money's going to something else next year, so I can't afford tickets next season unless I win the lottery or something. Its kinda sad to think about how long it may be till I get to sit in Fenway again. I may never see Beckett pitch again- he might be gone by before the next game I go to. And I never got to see him this year at all.
So I hope they come to play tonight, and wrap up the wild card. It'd be the second time I've been there to see them to clinch, the other being back in '03. That might help me get through the next two long cold winters till I get to go to Fenway again.

Make it happen.

Same here. Saving to move to San Fran for business next year. Maybe the Giants/A's will sign Beckett some day and I'll go see him ever 5 days.

I smell something.

What is it?

It's savory and succulent. It's powerful yet refined.

Is it a freshly made apple pie a la mode?

No, although it does smell sweet and delicious.

Is it the interior of a Lamborghini Murcielago?

No again, although it is lush and wonderful.

Hmmm.

OHHHH it's the sweet smell of a champagne and cigar smoke covered, goggle-wearing locker room.

Let's go to it, gentleman.

6 pack of Guinness chilled to just the right temp...3 for during the game, 3 for the celebration. I'm saving the bottle of Jamison's for bigger celebrations.

I think its fitting that Clay gets this chance tonight. He paid his dues this year, and it's paying off for him and the team. He is the next big thing, be sure of that. Let tonight serve him as well as Game 4 in Colorado did one Jon Lester.
