There was confirmed chatter about Beckett getting rest...
The optimist in me hopes that this is a hybrid of Hellenic Flu and everyone being supercalifragilisticexpi-overcautious, if there is actually something barking.

I'm new and all however, this word should be used in every game thread appropriate. Forgive me if this has been covered already.

I wouldn't read much into the Beckett thing...upper back spasms - big fucking deal. He gets rest, which is key.

The real suck to this is that Beckett and Martinez probably could have used another game together to get better in sync.

Even if they dont make it because the AAA squad goes onto lose the last 7 games?

Obviously we are extremely likely to make the playoffs, but Id prefer we played our major league regulars until it was actually assured (within reason of course, Im fine with sitting people due to real injuries).

Seems pretty arrogant and misguided to take the playoffs for granted at this point, stranger things have happened.

Apparently, Michael Bowden is pissed off that his personal binky, Dusty Brown, is not catching tonight. Citing "labia spasms," Bowden threatened not to start until manager Terry Francona put him in a time out near canvas alley. "Dusty has caught all my starts this year," said a clearly aggitated Bowden, while applying ice packs to his groin but moving with little apparent trouble. "Victor Martinez is good and all, but, honestly, fuck him. I've earned a little consideration too."

I think Bowden goes 5-6, 3 ER today...the Blue Jays AAA lineup (aside from Hill and maybe Lind) shouldn't be too hard for him.

I feel September rookie no-hitter kind of game - get it done Bowden. End the angst sooner rather than later, so you can coast and fine tune the rest of the week. Kick some BJ's ass tonight guys - make a "going to the post-season" team statement.

GO SOX - WIN TONIGHT!

There is simply zero chance the Red Sox don't make the playoffs. Even if they rolled out an actual AA roster, there would be a 100% chance of them clinching. It's not really up for discussion.

"Stranger things have happened"

They really haven't (in baseball terms). The Sox are in. It's over.

Losing the wild card (calling each of the 14 games a coin flip) is a bit less than .01% (less than 1 in 10,000). You might bump it to about .02% (1 in 5000) for tying for the wild card and a one-game playoff.

Actually, I suspect the Sox would make the playoffs even if they had zero games left to play. I think the Rangers will lose at least 2 in the next week.
