Didn't the Ladies Man drink Hochevar?

Well, now our bats will drink it too, and spit it out in disgust.

In 2004, the 105-win Cardinals, sans Chris Carpenter, fell to the inferior yet (it would seem) destiny-bound Red Sox. Here's the Cards' chance for revenge. Or, if you prefer (since the Cardinals bested the Sox in 1967 and 1946), it's Boston's chance to even the score with St. Louis. Or, if managerial history is your thing, then Tony La Russa and Terry Francona will both have the chance to become the ninth skipper in baseball history to win three or more World Series.

We're playing the team from KC, not St Louis. This paragraph makes no sense.

I paced myself better on Saturday night. Others did not.
Shortly after waking up on Sunday morning, some of the other folks who'd spent the night were noticing the curious brown streaks on the outside of the toilet bowl. The only person still sleeping by this point was our host. Curiousity got the better of me and I carefully opened his door and took a peek into his room.
The boxers containing the load were on the floor about 4' in front of the door. My friend was still passed out.
The look on his face when he came downstairs looking at the looks on our faces was truly priceless. It still brings a smile to my face. I laughed until I cried, then I laughed some more.
So go ahead and shit in your drawers. It's amusing to other people.
George Brett was a Royal and he shits his pants too.

Barring a Saunders/Kazmir start, that's probably your ALDS Game 1 lineup.

It's such a fearsome lineup. 5X better than what we trotted out there in the 2008 playoffs IMO.
#27

That, plus why are they planning that far ahead? It's stioll very early to try and set a matchup like that.

Yes, a little. Although that was before we realized what a joke the NL had become.

Even with a lefty starting, who would you take out of that lineup? Ortiz, Drew?
#35
Posted 23 September 2009 - 05:36 PM
Seems premature. A sweep in the toilet brings the Red Sox to 2 games back in the loss column with 7 games to play against the Indians and Blue Jays assuming the Red Sox win 2 against KCR and the MFY win the finale against the Angels (leading 3-2 as I type).
But if it helps your blood pressure to concede the division early, thats nice. There is nothing to focus on for the WC really, thats in the bank other than the mathematical clinching, and has been since the Rangers lost Young and Hamilton and the Rays tanked after trading Kazmir and then lost Pena.
It's not an experiment though, V-Mart has caught Beckett once before.

Everyone needs to start getting used to it including Varitek AND Beckett. It's about deepening the lineup and winning games.

This is my playoff lineup against right handers. Good to see playoff Tito again. Hopefully I'm not jumping the gun there, though. Anyway, my lineup against lefties goes like this, changed players and positions bolded:
1. Ellsbury CF
2. Pedroia 2B
3. Martinez C
4. Youkilis 3B
5. Bay LF
6. Lowell DH
7. Drew RF
8. Kotchman 1B
9. Gonzalez
Other than maybe batting Drew eighth (and, likewise, Kotchman seventh), is this the lineup we want against the lefties?

Whatever...it's all about getting to the playoffs and let's see what happens there. Wild Card winners have just as much a shot as a Division Champ now. I know, it's just about beating the MFY's at ANYTHING! I crave a sweep this weekend in NY.

At the top of each inning, get runs.
At the bottom of each inning, throw mean, filthy, nasty strikes.
At the end of the game - a W.
Simple.

The BUCK.
(the man said)
STOPS HERE.
A win here gives Masterson and his mates hope of getting out of the cellar. Win it for the Tribe. Heck, win it for ALL of this year's sellers. For without you, the rest of us would be 13% less good-er.

But if it helps your blood pressure to concede the division early, thats nice.
I don't think you grasp how few games left there are to play. Assuming the Red Sox sweep the Yankees, here's what else would need to happen against their other opponents:
Boston goes 9-0 against other opponents, Yankees go 4-2 (or worse)
Boston goes 8-1 against other opponents, Yankees go 3-3
Boston goes 7-2 against other opponents, Yankees go 2-4
Boston goes 6-3 against other opponents, Yankees go 1-5
Which of those scenarios do you see happening for the Sox to take over the division?

A "Sweep" in the toilet. With Dice K and Bird pitching? You have failed to recognize that the Red Sox team does not care about winning the division. The fans are the only ones that care.
But if it helps to keep your juices flowing thinking they are going to go all out to win the division that's nice.

Exactly. Be realistic. At this point, the Sox focus only on the WC. The Division ain't happening so why put on pressure or stress. The playoffs, anything happens, Wild Card's have just as much a chance as anyone, i.e. '97.
Clinch the WC and then you have plenty of time to rest, regroup and set up rosters/rotations.
