Isn't Lowell really the only guy in the infield with below average range?

I think that Youkilis, Gonzalez and even Pedroia have only average range -- their gold-glove worthy fielding skills come in other dimension: turning the double play, digging out errant throws, and the intelligence and diamond awareness to make the throw to the right base at the right time more often than most of their peers in the major leagues.

Curse Al Michaels.

First he starts calling Roethlisburger Ben and now this. His name is Luke Nagheenanajar. It's not that hard: Na-ghee-na-na-jar. Nagheenanajar.

This is a different Luke. That one was sent to the Dagoba system.

I'm curious...

Do y'all think that because Texas is toast (no pun intended) and the Yankees are winning the division the Sox are more lackadaisical?

Edit: the pun is Texas Toast (I'm posting that because until I came down here I didn't know there was such a thing - sorry!)

They do have UZR/150's of 8.7, 6.7, and 10.9 this year respectively.

Betancourt continues to kill Beckett and the Red Sox. He reasserts his place on the lead pipe list.

Would you trust UZR numbers' assignment of zone more than your eyes? I think that for short-term fielding evaluations, your eyes tell you more than any of the zone-based fielding metrics. There's a good reason why people don't like to use less than 3 years' UZR data in arriving at an assessment of a fielder's quality -- there's just too much indirectness and subjectivity built into the data.

Of course, you may say your eyes tell you the same thing as UZR... in which case, go for it.

Did Jacoby let up on that ball? Was there some confusion with he and Drew?

Looked like a catchable ball.

That 10-1 debacle in Baltimore sent them on a month or more offensive tailspin; there's no way of quantifying it but there has to be a residual effect of massive gut punch losses like that. Monday night was certainly a mammoth shot to the gut...and we're seeing the offense go into the fetal position again.

To me, it looks like Beckett is having trouble locating. He's not hitting Victor's target at all. That last ball ran up and out over the plate.

No reason to panic...Josh gets two more starts before the end of the season. Two runs this inning is not insurmountable. Hopefully sooner than later we can hit the MF ball again!
