The Rangers. I mean, wow.
The staying in the race this long has to guarantee Mauer the AL MVP, right?
Edit: Also if LA holds on, and the MFY win today, they clinch a playoff spot.

Yea what a brutal way for them to piss away their playoff chances. I would have never guessed that both the Rays and Rangers would absolutely tank.

Patriots game.
I never thought I'd take a Dice K start over watching Tom Brady, but it would have been better.

On the other hand, the best bet to beat Greinke is to embarrass that team's offense, not to score a half a dozen runs.

Am I alone in not caring about the division at all? If the Sox are playing well I'm confident they can beat any team in a short series, home-field or not.

Shrug. If you can't get excited about a late season push to the division, why even watch until the postseason?

I don't think he's alone in thinking that unless the Yankees completely go 07 Mets on us, the division just might not be worth going all out for. If it starts looking really attainable (i.e. get another game or two closer before going to NY), then yeah, I'd be thrilled if the division can be had. But when you have a chance to go into the postseason rested against a team you have consistently given fits to in the playoffs, the amount of work placed on the pitching staff in trying to catch the Yankees just might not be worth it.
At the same time, as much as I'd love to see this team get home field advantage, Verlander really does scare the crap out of me. No part of me wants to see the Sox face that guy twice in a best of five series. Not that I think the team should "strategically" bow out of the division race, but I think that the chance of this team going the distance via the wild card is a lot closer to the chance they could go to the distance after entering as the 1 seed than it is in a typical year. Los Angeles could sweep us and make this point moot, but I do think the prospects of taking a game in Anaheim and then two in Boston are favorable - possibly moreso than winning three against Detroit.

I'd like the Division, please. The Angels are better than Detroit or Minnesota. I'd MUCH rather have one of them at home then the Angels out west. Just because we have had their number the past several years does not mean it'll continue. Plus, umm, it's cool to win the Division.

All true. Still, since we seem to have a stranglehold on the wildcard, I'm choosing to root for the division. Cuz hey, it's baseball baby. I don't want to spend two weeks rooting for Texas to lose.

Yeah, I definitely don't disagree. I'm just saying I would absolutely put myself in the "rest Beckett/Lester/Buchholz/Bay/Drew/Ortiz/Lowell/etc etc unless we quickly find ourselves within 2.5" camp.
