Seriously, I can't believe this play hasn't received more attention in the press -- he slowed up as it fell. Did anyone else think he might've caught that ball? Or should have at least attempted a diving catch? It's the third out, and if it falls, the game's over -- isn't this when you should, you know, take a shot?

Bizarre.

Even if he did one of those patented Manny Ramirez feet first slides, he catches that thing. Let alone laying out headfirst like a real outfielder.

If he, ya know, actually RUNS towards the ball he catches it without sliding or diving. Yet all Socia can do is bitch out the umpire? Weak.

So if Beckett almost never pitches to Victor, and if Beckett will probably be our number one starter come playoff time, is it safe to assume Varitek will be starting game one of a playoff series with either Lowell or Ortiz sitting?

No way to be certain, but I honestly lean towards thinking that yes, that will be the case. It all depends on how insistent Beckett will be about it. He could come around and appreciate that Tek not being in the lineup helps the cause, or he could stubbornly insist on using only his personal caddy.
I think the least we can all hope for is that Beckett will get lined up against lefties in the playoffs, Saunders in the first round etc., so at least Tek will not bat lefty.
Just imagine how ugly it could get if the Sox get to the World Series and Beckett pitches on the road.

The commissioner's office is investigating whether Angels closer Brian Fuentes, Manager Mike Scioscia and any of the team's coaches should be disciplined for comments during and after Wednesday's 9-8 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Pat Courtney, spokesman for the commissioner's office, said today that officials would review the Angels' comments to the media as well as the report filed by umpires after the game.

"They'll see if there's anything they feel crosses the line," Courtney said.

Courtney would not discuss possible sanctions. However, it is likely that any discipline would be limited to fines rather than suspensions

Not only was he jogging, he appeared to slow up before the ball fell in front of him. If there's any time to dive for the ball, that was it: 2 outs, bases loaded, with the winning run set to score.

I think Rivera was lulled by Seabass: he had visions of kelp and minnows floating in front of his eyes.

That would be seriously adding insult to injury, the Angels getting disciplined on top of their loss last night. Just fines would be nothing to Fuentes and Scioscia, of course. Still, I say let it go, MLB.

I guess nobody's buying my fear of injury theory with Rivera. Everybody keep an eye on him the rest of the year, as best you can, and see if he ever does dive, or otherwise intentionally cause himself to get jarred. Bet he doesn't.

The Angels have already lost this game based upon their whiny comments. The only way Boston loses tonight is if they beat themselves/lean on Varitek's skills.

Josh F. Beckett is a cold blooded killer. LAAAA took a swing and missed leaving themselves vulnerable to a counter attack. Kill, Josh, kill.

FINISH THEM

That won't get Tek out of the game. Victor will be at first. It's never going to be Victor or Tek. Victor's always in. It's going to be Tek or Lowell.
Now if Lowell absolutely owned Lackey, that might do the trick.
