Jacoby leads a game off with a walk so rarely that it hurts to squander it like that.

It's nice for the leadoff walks to be going to the Red Sox for a change.

Be nicer if they did something with it other than a DP.

Ironic, no?

Not necessarily. BABIP is like a minor Old-Testament god: he resents monotheism, and certainly doesn't care much for the minions of the would-be Almighty.

Papelbon not available tonight because of back issues.

Well his pitches were scorched last night.

Interesting how the NFL fines teams for not reporting injuries to players beforehand and here we all whine that they should not make this stuff public.

And Byrd is making Ellsbury exercise today. He would still be pitching the 1st and given up about 6 runs if not for the wind.

I dig Paul Byrd's retro wind up, the way his arms swing back. It's like watching a pitcher from 1940.

No link. Steve Buckley said it on CSN Sports Tonight. He had a quote from Papelbon to back it up. "It's nothing serious."

So that's 4 of the first 6 outs hit to the warning track? Byrd clearly has them right where he wants them.

Papi pretty much gets a rest every night, except for 4 bursts of about 90 seconds each.

All those numbers about Tek against lefties and Tek against the Angels, well they still can't hide that the guy is sitting at the Mendoza line. Well, he just slipped below the line with that at bat.

I would think that is part of it. They'll really want him to be healthy going into the playoffs. Any excuse they have, they'll sit him...esp now that the playoffs are becoming a lot more comfortable.

Hey, if this lineup can score 3 runs off Lackey, I'm quite confident they can eek a few off Cy Saunders.

What the heck is Tito's obsession with bunting lately? Sure it's worked out a couple of times, but it's not like we're world champs at getting the man home with an out.

So we've done nothing with a leadoff walk, a leadoff single, and a leadoff double. Paul Byrd is on the mound. That is not a combo that inspires confidence.

Nothing wrong with the bunt; but there was with the suck that followed.
