Is this comeback/collapse really possible?
Even if it were possible I doubt you'd see either team knock themselves out in the last couple of weeks since one will win the division and the other will get the wildcard.

Sending the Yanks to Anaheim is more or less ending their season.

Yes but the Sox won't go all out to make this happen. Because if they did and came up short they might screw themselves up heading into the postseason. They will coast if they can near the end - it's their philosophy. (IMO)

Like Solomon, I choose to cut them both in half.

Do you genuinely believe this?

Stay classy New York.

What a douche
Posada is a fraud. first he chickens out on blocking the plate on Swisher's throw. Then he precipitates a brawl on a pitch that didn't even hit him.
He might look tough to the fans, but I'm sure the Blue Jays are laughing in their locker room.

Stay classy New York.
Better then when they threw a knife at Wally Joyner

It's not automatic obviously, but the Yanks haven't beaten the Angels in anything meaningful this decade and just absolutely get owned in that stadium out there, including the 3 game sweep this year before the ASB. I'd be as confident in the Angels beating the Yanks as I would in us beating the Angels, which is a lot.

This version of the Yankees is the best one yet this decade, and has won five out of six from the Angels in NY. I get that under your scenario, the Angels would have home field, but let's see how their series in LA goes this week.

We felt the same way about the Sox when your boy threw his helmet at an unsuspecting 20 year old.

I was just going off Porcello's reaction when he saw Youk headed towards him. He looked confused before he body slammed him.

As they call it, "acting".

You're seriously arguing that Porcello didn't think it was possible he might get charged for drilling Youks? Really?
Wow...

Is this comeback/collapse really possible?
No.
If NY goes 8-8 from here on out, the Sox need to go 16-3 to tie them.
If NY goes 6-10 from here on out, they need to go 14-5 to tie them.
If NY goes 4-12 from here on out, they need to go 12-7 to tie them.
You get the idea. Even if you think the Yanks will finish out below .500, expecting the Sox to play +.700 ball is unlikely.

Wow...
How much time elapsed between the second the ball hit Youk and the race to the mound? Three seconds? I don't think he thought anything except "Oh Shit" in those three seconds.

If the Sox sweep (in the head-to-head games) this reduces to:
If NY goes 8-5 from here on out, the Sox need to go 13-3 to tie them.
If NY goes 6-7 from here on out, they need to go 11-5 to tie them.
If NY goes 4-9 from here on out, they need to go 9-7 to tie them.
in the others.
It's still not very likely, but I think you are overestimating the rarity of playing .700+ ball over three weeks (e.g. they've played .730 baseball over the previous 26 games).

I'm not overestimating anything. The rarity is not playing .700 ball. It's expecting them to play .700 ball while the Yanks play sub-.500 ball.
You're assuming a sweep in your example. That's a fairly big if. And you admit that it's still not very likely even if they DO sweep.
I should amend my previous statement. Of course it's possible... I just don't think it's very likely at all. Like, "not even worth the bother to hope for, so why ask?" level of possible.

You claimed Porcello was an "unsuspecting 20 year old" when Youks charged him. How does him thinking "Oh shit..." back up that claim? And that's assuming your ability to read his mind is without question, which it isn't.

"Didn't think it was possible" and "taken by surprise" are not mutually exclusive positions.

I'm going to drop this. You looked too deep into my original post. Foulkey said how easy it was too hate the Yanks, and as a Yankee fan, I was just saying that we felt the same way when we watched Youk charge Porcello.

And this is somehow different from your opinion of the intelligence of nearly all professional baseball players?
