That ball 3 to V-Mart was right at the edge, per gameday.

You think the guy who just yelled "Youk, hit a homa!" knows he's an unoriginal douchebag?

That inning annoyed me.

Pedroia taps the ball to the right side and it's 1-0.

Half of being an unoriginal douchebag is a general lack of understanding.

Welcome. If you get sick of Staats, the NESN blackout should be lifted at 12:30 EDT...

Of Buchholz's first 10 pitches, four were swinging strikes -- and there's another on pitch 13.

That is because EI is stupid and does not know there is a game. NESN blacked out because they think NESN is showing The Ultimate Red Sox Show, which is always blacked out. You can get it on the Rays channel, 653

Thanks so much!

Radio saying "There are other reasons for the Kazmir trade that Tampa Bay I'm sure won't talk about, but suffice it to say they weren't happy with him."

Any insights?

Concerns about the longterm health of his shoulder.

And the fact that he was fucking awful this year.

Probably some combo of the 2.

If Buchholz has finally put it all together, and Beckett is back..they can start fitting the Sox for rings now.

This line-up makes a ton of sense.

After all, why not put four guys from the bench in the line-up at the same time? Why not do that against the better of Tampa's two pitchers today? Why not spread out the bench guys between the two games evenly? Texas, Shemexas.

To be fair, while this lowers the probability of sweeping the double-header, it also lowers the probability of being swept. So assuming some degree of risk-aversion (since the Sox are currently ahead in the WC race) I think it's defensible. Also, remember what EV has posted about good pitching having a "flattening" effect on hitter success (i.e. the gap between good and bad hitters becomes smaller.) If this is true, it's better to rest the better hitters against the better pitcher.

Maybe someone can answer this for me.

What's with Rays pitchers and doing that stupid little glove shake thing when in the set position? Wheeler does it, Garza does it, I'm sure I've seen others do it.

What purpose does it have, if any?

The ump is doing a good job not falling for Garza's "three inches off the outside corner" pitches

It helps prevent pitch tipping. If you're always doing some glove shaking, you're never falling into a pattern.

yeah, it's kind of like dropping a pop-up with two outs in the ninth and the winning run on base.

Edit: should add a smile.gif or something
