Bottom of the Third, tied at three.
Jeter 2 for 2 so far in his chase of Lou for the all time Yankee hits record. He's now only 4 hits away.

In the 2nd, a seeing eye single for Jeter, and two bullshit bloops by Shemp and Swisher tie the game

Yeah, but they're gonna need all of those they can get looking at Mitre.

I hope Jeter passes Lou Gehrig and then gets his disease.

I hope you're joking.

I love the corpses of Tim Wakefield and Paul Byrd.

Didn't realize they were in relieving Mitre today. And I believe you just conjured up what is known affectionately on SOSH as a "straw man argument."

Looks like they're keeping Serge in there to take punishment and save the bp. Not an entirely white-flag mulligan strategy either; the Yankees' offense is capable of bailing out more Mitre-ocrity per IP (M/IP) than most teams.

Hey, that's uncalled for. Wakefield isn't a corpse, he's a stiff. And Byrd just sucks.

Josh Towers sighting.

Heckuva of a 5th inning.

I also whole-heartedly endorse the Josh Towers Era in Yankee Universe™. Two years is way too long to wait for his giftiness to have returned to the major leagues.

Well, that was a fun one to fast forward through quickly. Can I never see Jerry Hairston at 3B again for NY? Thanks in advance.

Sloppy game all around, probably good that they all conspired together to falter in one game.

Thinking about the fact that Girardi left Mitre in, I was thinking it was because he needed him to take one for the team looking ahead to the TB series.

How are the Yankees going to set up their pitching vs. TB this week? I tried figuring it out but am not day-to-day enough with the teams to suss it out. Given that there's a Labor Day doubleheader *and* that ostensibly Joba pitches Wednesday regardless of rotation since that's the fifth day for his current iteration of 'Rules, I was curious.

It's not very complicated, since they're using six starters right now. Sabathia and Burnett in the doubleheader tomorrow, then Gaudin and Joba.
