I really wish people would stop talking about Lester as one of the top lefties in the game and just start calling him one of the top pitchers in the game. Because he's not just a great lefty. He's a dominant pitcher.

Eh. That's gonna be true of any left handed pitcher till they reach that undoubtedly elite level. Lester's close to that, but not quite there just yet. Give it another year.

Not too worried about getting into the playoffs, I just have next to no confidence that they will do anything once getting there. And if Beckett doesn't turn it around, they're cooked.

Now 5-0, bases loaded and 1 out.

But may I remind you, sir, that these are the Orioles we're contemplating. 5-0 is a tie ballgame with that staff.

Why does this happen to Lester like 3 times a game. He seems to go through a couple stretches every game where he loses his control a bit.

edit: nevermind

His power is virtually nonexistent, and opposing pitchers know this. Throw him anything on the outer-half and you've effectively limited what he can do.

Can't he make an adjustment and leave those pitches alone and then wait for a mistake? At the very least he would up the pitch count, give Jacoby an opportunity to impact the pitcher and a chance to run if he is on base as well as give himself a better shot of getting that mistake to drive into the gap.

It seems to me that would be the best approach. Paging Magadan.

If the Sox had scored some more runs in his other starts and he didn't start so slow in April and May, then Lester would be in the cy young discussion. Too bad he didn't have 3 to 4 more wins like he probably should. If he was up to 14 or 15 wins right now he would be right in the discussion.
