Jim Johnson. Not great, not bad; certainly not Armando or Francisco. I think you can count on the Birds winning this one. Although, the lineup somewhat favors Texas, who have Cruz, Murphy, and Pudge due up.

I just checked tomorrow's matchups in Baltimore. I think an argument can be made that the O's could be favored in that one. Neither pitcher looks very good, but Guthrie is at home, and Holland is the one the Jays lit up like a little leaguer his last time out.

Well yeah, but so was 2007. Remember Paps in a jock dancing on the field after the Yankees choked?

Meh.
We're only allowed to watch the scoreboard after a win to see if the other guy loses?

I do. And I'm not making any predictions from here. Truth of the matter is that, assuming the Sox get in, the only thing that matters is how they and others play from early Oct on.
That said, the inability of this team to put it all together and sustain success is immensely frustrating. If they get caught and then passed by Tex or Tampa while playing like this, they'll deserve their fate.

I was thinking back to the start of the year when the Red Sox were considered as good as anybody and optimistic Giants followers were hoping for .500.

Torn rotator cuff at 45 years old = End of the line. I don't care what Johnson says. If he comes back at all, ever, it's an absolute goddamn miracle of modern medical science.

Tampa gives it up in what looks like a complete nutpunch loss to the Tigers 8 -6. Shields left in to give up 6 runs, and the bullpen (beaten up in the RS series perhaps?) coughing it up (Balfour...yes!!) beyond that. They had a 6-3 lead going into the 7th....ouch.
