I FELT IT WAS A PROS POS TO START A GAMING THREAD FOR THE UPCOMING MATCH BETWEEN OUR RESPECTIVE SOCKS.
YOU, THE BOSTON RED SOX...A SYMBOL OF A BYGONE ERA WHERE RED WAS THE COLOR OF LOVE, RATHER THAN DESPOTIC COMMUNISM.
MY FRIENDS AND I, THE VIRTUOUS WHITE SOX OF CHICAGO. OURS TWO IS A TEAM THAT IS RAMPENT WITH HISTORY, MOSTLY REVOLVING AROUND ALMOST DESTROYING BASEBALL AND DESTROYING DISCO ALUMBS.
THOUGH THE BEE GEES WERE VERY POPULAR, THEIR MUSIC IS NOT MY CUP OF TEA SO I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THAT SAD TO SEE THE DESTRUCTION OF SAID ALBUMS.
I DIEGRESS. I HAVE NOT COME TO THIS HOUSE TO "TALK SMACK". ONLY TO WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK THIS SERIES, AS LONG AS THAT LUCK DOES NOT INCLUDE WINNING GAMES FROM US PALE HOSE.
SINCERELY YOURS,
JIM THOME.

EDIT: I'm very highly doubting you're Jim Thome. If you are, awesome. You're a great guy for the community, and the city of Chicago. My hat would then be tipped for you, Mr. Thome. Plus, why all the caps?

WHT is merely a crass bastardization.
Which begs the question - what if a team goes 88 years between championships and nobody gives a shit?
Pale hose, pale imitation. Fuck off, Chisox. Die.

I THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND FOR THE RECOGNITION THAT YOU ARE GIVING TO ME FOR MY MANY HOURS OF CHARITABLE WORKS.
ARE YOU THE YOUNG MAN I MET AT THE GROUP HOME LAST YEAR? IF SO, I HOPE THAT AUTOGRAPH I SENT YOU IS UP ON YOUR WALL WITH THE COLLECTION OF HOCKEY HELMETS YOU WERE SO PROUD OF.

No, NO, that's LUCIOUS Taters. He's very sensitive about his given name.
Speaking of posters' sensitivities, I really hate being shouted at, and that's what ALL CAPS does. So, WordUpThome, please do us all a big favor and release the caps lock key. Forever.
And ever.
Amen.

That said, WUT and his caps-lock are straight butter awesome. Keep the key locked, my Hgh riddled brother. Lock that shit down!

wordupthome, our two teams shall engage each other on the playing field, with great vigor and enthusiasm, this fine evening. i would hope, as an ardent red sox fan, that my team shall emerge triumphant. but i wish you and yours the best of fortitude in your enjoyment of tonight's ballgame.

I bet Clay Buchholz does, too.
Buchholz has been effusive in his enjoyment in having Martinez be his catcher. I am looking forward to tonight to see them build off the last couple of starts, and maybe (hopefully) move on to a time where the Sox can have a peaceful, Varitek-free existence.

Between the awesomeness of the "we can build on this" that's going on with Victor and Clay and the competent defense (Lowell and Bay not withstanding), I'm slightly optimistic about our chances.

I didn't realize the Sox got a disc jockey on their team... his walk-up song will surely be neat, no?
No, Tito just wants a repeat performance of August 20th, where Drew smacked 2 homers, hitting out of the 8 hole. I suppose Francona is doing so to fire up JD, and make him motivated, as he appeared very, very annoyed that night, and results happened. I think it's worth a shot.

On the other hand, I don't mind watching Beckham and Alexei play.
Remember, whenever Orsillo and/or Remy annoy us tonight, we could be listening (ugh) to the Hawk (ugh).
Howsabout a win, boys?
So, the filter changes ( C ) as in catcher to C as in copyright?

If Varitek moves from catcher's crouch to easy chair we will have to get a serious second catcher. Martinez can catch 40-50% of games, definitely not more. He hits much better when he plays first base, and hitting and Ortiz-friendship are his primary contributions. His catching is OK and first base slightly better, but the team needs to make this guy comfortable.

Jose Contreras vs. Boston Red Sox
Buchholz got hit around the last time he faced the Southsiders. Contreras (and tomorrow's starter, Freddy Garcia) have had way too much success against the BoSox. A good time for regression to the mean considering the bats are coming around.
V-Mart has faced The Big Cuban the most of any Red Sox batter given the ole Central Division rivalry and has been horrid (<450 OPS). It'll be interesting to see what he can do slotted in the three-hole between two of the better hitters in the league.

The 8th slot is reserved for the newly promoted Professional Investment Banker.
Martinez has shown some quickness on line drives, although his range seems limited. With Gonzalez at shortstop, scooping balls out of the dirt isn't such a premium skill anymore.
I think Varitek will thrive on catching half-time, and his hitting will respond to being less banged up. I haven't felt this good about the Red Sox catching position since Mirabelli could hit.

I can see why one would hate Hawk Harrelson; he's arguably the most homeristic in the game (Rays guy? Kay? Marlins guy?). However, odd as it may sound, this is why I love him (granted, more for humor, his "announcing" is not truly announcing, to me). He makes me crack up with all of his pro-White Sox statements. Especially his home run call, if only for laughs, and his random on-air orgasms. He makes me laugh, and sometimes, that's all I need. If it's a big game, he can get on my nerves.
The ironic thing is that when I saw WGN vs. the Yankees, July 31st, he became Michael Kay and completely slobbered over Jeter and Teixeira. That felt really odd. I find it so funny; for the games he played in the majors, he never played for the ChiSox. At least Heinsohn can see he played for the respective team (Celtics). Imagine a booth of Hawk and Tommy, rooting for the same team. I'd be speechless.
I truly wish I got WGN, so I could laugh more. This is the same reason I like Tommy; the humor.
