Well, I got my DP there smile.gif

Josh Beckett's been totally clutch tonight, and I hope the bats, Bard, and Paps are up to the task.

Uhhhh... that would seem to belong in the other thread...

Actually, this is in theory the "off topic" thread. Nip said that "Let's still have fun in the main game thread but please do recognize that most members are coming there to follow along and discuss the game. As such, multiple pictures of light switches in the "ON" position , for example, should probably migrate over to the offtopic thread as they don't really add all that much to anyone's experience."

This is reading much more like the "thinking gamethreads" that we tried a few years ago that no one posted in. Frankly, it's awesome, but I think it's a tad backwards from the intended structure.

Edit: and sorry to Lazer Show and Blacken; I'm glad I was clear enough.

Can't figure out why Joe would hit and run there. Matsui is slow and Cano isn't the best contact hitter in that lineup.

That was the kind of throw we haven't seen out of Varitek in a long time.

Of course, it helps that Matsui is a lummox.

Is there still concern about Lowell's health? Are we dealing with effectively a 24 man roster for a period of time here?

Nice end to that inning there.

I'd have to say that by the way Lowell is being used, yes there is concern. The way JD and Bay have been lately it lowers the roster options even more. Bay as DH would be an option to Papi as an example in my mind with Reddick able to be in LF.

Must have been counting on contact. Which is a fair assumption, Cano has K'd less than 40 times this season.

Oh so close on that hack by Reddick. I like that kid on this team right about now. Seen him in Manchester NH four times this year and he really was a standout for the SeaDogs.

Woodward to make his debut in the bottom of the inning, I suppose.

You're going to have a difficult time convincing all the lurkers that this is where they should go to post the stupid stuff. I like this thing we've got going on here. This is the alternative game thread, truth be told, and reminds me of stuff from back in the day.

Sometimes words don't explain the feeling and I think it should be fine to talk feelings as well as analysis. But I guess it was Tek's good throw and the clean crispness of the play.

Well deserved ovation. Despite the walks, he allowed very few hits, and generally did a good job.

Now it's time to remind Hughes that he didn't win any ballgames last year.

Hell of a pitching performance by both starters tonight. Still with a handful of walks and no runs against Burnett seems strange. After last night I should not be stunned but not a timely hit with all these base runners is getting tough to swallow.

Perhaps your internet persona is to be an arrogant, blustering jack ass, but I'd suggest that you look at what I wrote: No where did I express any dissatisfaction in how this is one has been shaping up, I was pointing out that the "memo" I missed was the difference between what Nip posted and how this gamethread is actually being used. I pointed to a historical precedent, but frankly, this, now is different.

With the Lurkers in the "standard" gamethread raising the number of posters in it, the ability to have multiple, parallel conversations is drowned out (so that after anyone posts, they're 3 pages past the comments) and what didn't work before because no one used it will now work because that's what some of us want, even if the lables as given are a bit backwards.

Perhaps you, of all people, should fucking stop to read and fucking think a bit more before you post.

This is the velocity we all heard about when Hughes was coming up the minor league ladder. The ball explodes out of his hand and combined with the hammer curve he has makes him unhittable in a short stint. There is no way the Yankees should take him out of this role like they did with Joba Chamberlain.

I haven't followed him closely, but I think the best place for him is the 'pen. It seems like he hasn't had any success in the rotation, and has found a niche in relief. Perhaps the heir to Rivera?

He should be a starter next year, frankly, and the Yankees should not re-sign Pettitte. Of course, they might re-sign Pettitte anyway as Wang insurance, and Wang might be Hughes-ed next year anyway.

If there's any discussion about Joba relieving again, the Yankees should just give up. He belongs in the rotation for good, and anything else risks that shoulder of his. Which would please me as a Red Sox fan, but it would be devastating to Joba's career.
