If you didn't like the audio of Crash in the Patriots locker room today... well, you'll probably never like the show. Funny, awkward, stupid (and actually an angle on local sports that nobody else is going for).

That was fantastic, everything from the complete awkwardness with Jarvis Green blowing him off to telling Fred Taylor that "in the air tonight" is about watching someone drown was just so uncomfortable. It also appears as though it will be a regular gig for him, so there's epic potential here.

Nope. Ellsbury's got 2 walks all month and has scored 1 run in the last nine games. He is absolutely killing this ballclub. You don't get to point to Coco and say My Guy's Better. That's like saying cancer is better than AIDS. They both suck. Smiling Joe Hesketh

Check out hour 4 of the podcast if you want to catch up, but basically Crash got a credential to go into the Pats locker room after practice for the Wednesday media scrum. He got kind of flustered by all the nakedness and athletes doing their thing, and basically didn't know what to do with himself. He tried to talk to Jarvis Green, who called into T&R on BCN as a regular thing last year, but all he could do was make awkward small talk and trail off. Later Maroney was talking his favorite music to some reporter, saying In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins) got him going, and Crash butted in to the interview to say that the song was about drowning to death. It kind of killed things. He's normally gregarious too, which made listening to him bumble around funnier. And yeah, it sounds like this won't be the last time he goes.

The Wallach dynamic is interesting. I don't know if anyone caught the bit around 8:45 when they were discussing Rick Pitino's press conference yesterday. Rich said something about how Pitino is beloved in Boston (he was being sarchastic but Wallach didn't pick up on it right away). So when Wallach gave the excuse that he didn't detect the sarcasm because couldn't see Rich's face behind the monitor when he said it, Rich responded along the lines of "well the audience can't see my face either but I'm guessing they're not as stupid as you are". They are definitely managing to get laughs out of me. I wasn't sure what to make of the show at first, but it has been growing on me.

I did catch that, that was fantastic.

I know several fans of theirs who actually don't like the new sports-centric setup at all. Most aren't sports fans so much, but are glad they're still on the air in general.

Wallach in some ways has replaced Adolfo as prime whipping boy. Crash openly threatens him and Fred busts him at every turn. The Pitino stuff was great (it was Fred, not Rich though).

No complaining about WEEI having Lenny Clarke on if these two guys regularly have Frank Caliendo on.

Lenny Clarke makes Caliendo look like pre-MS Richard Pryor.

His Bill Walton impression was pretty darn good though. He was better than I expected.

The pink hat contest today was really good around 9:15am. They found a girl (and a couple friends) wearing a Sox jersey at a game and asked her 5 basic baseball questions. The contest was for people to guess how many she'd get right. First they got some background on how she became a sox fan and then asked who was on her shirt, she didnt know (Matzusaka).

The questions and her answers:
Q: What is a bunt
A: I dont know, but I know what it is in football (?!?)

Q: What is a grand slam
A: a home run (they have her 1/2 point)

Q: What is a full count
A: 5 (yes, she must have heard her friend say 3 and 2 and she added them)

Q: Name a catcher on the Red Sox
A: Ortiz (her friend said good answer)

Q: What is the wild card
A: The player least likely to score

Then T&R starting ripping on Tanguay some more to kill some time before an interview with Chris Gasper from the Globe.

Alright you sold me, not a pizza hut franchise but a deal for Fielder. Plus he's a vegitarian. How many plants could he eat? Of course so are elephants, brontosarus, and giraffes. i'm guessing he's not trending towards the latter. - Derek's friend talking about Prince Fielder 7/24/09

I'm guessing she got bunt confused with punt. That segment was pretty funny.

That's what I thought too. She was a solid choice to make pink hats look bad. Either T or R went as far as to say you can almost guess how well a pink hat will do on the quiz by the player they choose.

Ellsbury: no chance
Pedroia and Ortiz: almost as bad, "They sell those jerseys in airports"
Papelbon: party person
All position players: at least some shot
A starting pitcher: probably knows at least a little baseball

T&R have won me over. Sure some of their bits are going to stink but I haven't enjoyed listening to morning radio this much in a long time. Some of Angry Crash's stuff might be schtick, but holy hell is it funny, I like how it isn't always directed at Wallach either, he absolutely went off on Rich for playing "Crash is a Bitch" song a few weeks ago.

I really like the interviews they do with guys like Forsberg and Portnoy with Barstool Sports right now. Whereas D&C can't be bothered to talk to these guys unless they are named Brady or some other big name.

His Tiger Woods stuff today was awesome, considering the way he handled the fan backlash.

I only heard the beginning of the fan backlash when they were calling him a racist, but the initial meltdown when Wallach didn't mention the rest of the field was what finally won me over. He really needs to be a part of the show in the future because he is really the the glue that holds this show together.

Wall of Wallach is great. Nice to see them make him a part of the show and not just use him as a tool.

Isn't it Wallop Wallach?

BTW, I left the car before the bit came on. Were there really 10 Pats questions or was it a gag?
"Nothing is mean if it's funny enough" -- Eddie Haskell
"I am like a Phoenix rising from Arizona" -- Frank Costanza
"You should be like Calvin. His best friend was a tiger, he always went on dope adventures, and if anything stood in his way, he just peed on it." "Calvin Coolidge?" -- An exchange from "Community"

There were really 10 Pats questions, and they were actually pretty good trivia questions. From memory:

1. Who was the #3 QB on the depth chart in front of Brady in 2000.
2. How many Super Bowls did the Pats win in the 20th century.
3. Who QB'ed the team to 2 wins in 1992.
4. Who was the 1st rd pick in 1987 that the Pats tried to convert to DB, refused, was traded, and eventually won MVP.
5. Who was the #1 overall pick in 1984.
6. Who was the offensive coordinator in 2003.
7. Who was their 1st round pick in 2001.
8. Where did Troy Brown go to college.

I can't remember the other 2. The caller only got one (being exposed in the process, it was embarrassing) and Wallach got 6 I think. The intro theme song set to a Rush song was the best part though.

And yeah, it was called Wallop Wallach. I'm enjoying his involvement quite a bit, he provides a good contrast to the rest of the show.
