Why was Bruney going to bat in an AL game? How bad is Girardi?

He PH Posada for Cody Ransom in the 7th and Jeter had to move from DH to SS. It was the Jon Abbey thing to do.

Girardi is awful, but this was actually good managing by him.

Jon Abbey would never ever have Cody Ransom on the roster, let alone in a game. But in the situation, it was the right way to go. That spot never even got up again, so really not sure how anyone could argue otherwise.

I don't like giving up your DH on the road. I think in that particular spot, he does have to hit for Ransom, so he didn't have much of a choice, but that's why you just put Jeter on the bench.

Except Jeter had 4 hits as the DH, and his numbers against LHP this year are insane (.440/.520/.643/1.163).

I think the Angels have been the best prescription for any angst with the Sox over the past 6 years...they ass-rape the MFY and then bend over to get ass raped by the Sox when it counts the most.

This was my problem. Half-day offs are dumb. They're not really a day off at all. If he needs a day off give him a real one.

Exactly. Give him tomorrow off against Weaver, who is death on RHH's (.176/.230/.255 this season).

OK, that's an argument I can get behind, except that maybe Girardi figured that Weaver would be much tougher overall than Saunders and he wanted his best lineup in tomorrow. I'm just saying once the lineup was set, I think Girardi handled it correctly (as opposed to pulling Melancon too early).

Agreed, the move was exactly correct to do at the time.

Just curious as to why they put themselves into position with no backup SS when you had Ransom in there who you know migh tneed to be PH for. Jeter is a very good hitter...so him getting 4 hits isn't a surprise...but he didn't have to do it while gobbling up a DH spot.

Either way, Girardi's bad moves with the pitching pales in comparison to the lineup stuff.
