That's right. The much ballyhooed SoSH Cookbook, Home Plates*, is now for sale. It features over 200 outstanding recipes and essays on food and drink. We have Maalox waxing poetic about crockpots, an ode to bacon by Sille "The Master of Pork" Skrub, wine stylings by the indomitable Yammer, food porn by Hildy and, just for Yaz4ever, how to grill without gas by me. Cover art is by the one and only HighHeat. The forward is by the mabrowndog himself and there will be recipes from Shonda Schilling's recipe box and from the Hoyt family.

We are extending the online ordering deadline to midnight on Friday 8/14.
We will also have cookbooks available for sale at the Softball Bash and at the Fenway Bash, if copies are still available. Maybe if they are drunk enough, you can get some of the authors of the essays to autograph your copy.

This thing kicks some serious ass.

Just a minor point about ordering multiples - the number ordered doesn't persist through to PayPal, so if you order 2 on the form, you also have to update the quantity to 2 later on in the PayPal screen.

Yeah, unfortunate limitation of the methods available to integrate PayPal without custom programming. The form actually serves as a record of your order and is used for shipping and delivery purposes.

Bottom line, yes you do have to update the quantity once you get to PayPal.

Assuming your order was after 2PM yesterday and does not appear in the Audit Thread, and you have received an email receipt from PayPal, PM me your real name, date/time of transaction and PayPal address and I will confirm for you. I do not see a recent form with your SoSH name nor do I have an unmatched payment. In the past, all of these missing payment situations arise due to an incomplete PayPal transaction. Please verify with PayPal, especially if you did not receive an emailed reciept of payment from them.

One other note:

Shipments outside the lower 48 US states will carry additional charges that vary by destination. As noted in prior threads, postage will depend on package weight and dimensions, which we don't have yet. And despite my lobbying for a BrownDog's Geisha Girl Emporium subsidy, only actual postage costs will be passed on to buyers.

Our suggestion is to go ahead and order your books per the instructions above, and you will be contacted regarding additional payment as soon as we know those exact costs. Your patience is appreciated, as we may not have those details until we're ready to ship your package, especially for multiple book orders.

For the record, the most anyone will pay for postage on orders weighing 4 lbs or less (up to 4 books) is US$12.95 for a Priority Mail flat-rate small box. Delivery is advertised as taking 6 to 10 business days anywhere on the planet, but those in heavily populated areas and major cities can expect much speedier service. Obviously we'll use cheaper options where available, but for those of you in Asia, Africa, Oceania and South America, this will probably be the number.

I see a payment but not a form. If you can try just the form again and be sure to hit your browser refresh before filling it out. Sometimes an old version is cached and sometimes, it just misbehaves. No need to resubmit payment.

Food Porn

It may be the last item on the menu, but many SoSHers award dessert centerfold status in their food world. They have a point, as a good dessert is far more likely to evoke glazed eyes and a pool of spittle than, say, a plate of watercress. All that melting chocolate or decadent whipped cream just naturally scores perfect 10s on the sensuality meter. An ambrosial chocolate mousse may not be quite as hot as Bar Rafaeli, but then again it doesn’t require air brushing. Then there’s the naughty factor. Any self-respecting tongue candy comes with a caloric price tag, and we all know that illicit pleasures lend more of a tang.

Wine

Wine makes everything better. It makes boring people more interesting, ugly people a little sexier, sexy people ultra-hot ( both of which lead to lots of bad decisions, but let's table that for the moment), food more tasty and evenings more mellow. What else does that that is not already attached to your body and within easy reach? Not for nothing, but there's not much else that adds value the way that wine does.

So let’s talk about wine a little here.
