Whatever. I'll be happy when the MFYs actually get to face a major league team. That's not going to happen tonight.

Is Atlanta without McLouth and Escobar a major league team?

Just askin b/c Gregor Blacno, Kelly Johnson, Jeff Francouer, and Diory Hernandez don't really seem like major leaguers to me.

Johnson is good just having a bad year.

Anyway the bigger issue is Redding and Livan. They don't belong on a major league team.

Redding is horrible, I agree. Livan has actually been league-average this year...

I can't remember him ever not getting rocked by the Yankees. The only way the Mets win tonight is if Wang is so horrible their really bad lineup creams him.

If I were David Wright, I think I'd pull a Kevin Brown and just start punching walls until I got myself put on the DL.

Not really on topic, but since the game hasn't started yet...

Why do so many people insist on saying that NY has the most knowledgable sports fans around? Cone was saying it during the game last night, the host on ESPN radio was just saying it, I hear it all the time. I don't go to a lot of games, but when I do, the people sitting near me are never knowledgeable, people who call into the sports radio shows (not that I listen too much, but when I do) mostly wouldn't know OPS from WHIP at gunpoint, and if there are more than a few clued in people on nyyfans, they're lost in the morass of stupidity.

So where does this come from? Is it just more NYC-centricity? Was it true at one point?

You answered your own question.

And it's not true. There are knowledgeable sports fans in every market, including NY. That said, whether it's because NY is so cosmopolitan and has so much going on or for some other reason, I think people are generally less focused on sports, and therefore less knowledgeable, in NY than they are in many other places.

And I hope the Mets kick the crap out of Wang tonight.

I also think that in general, the more a team wins, the stupider their fan base gets as more 'Pink Sox' types jump on board.

NY is a media saturated market, so maybe more fans do know more details about what is going on with their team and others. And since many of these fans are from NYC itself, maybe it's just a natural tendency for them to be opinionated dickheads about it.

Knowledgable and opinionated, not smarter.

The Yankees/Mets fans I come into contact with could almost never be described as knowledgable.

Well, and I think it's the media, who are pretty ill-informed themselves, who are describing the fans they inform, poorly, as knowledgeable. IOW, it's the standard that's the problem. I'm pretty sure that standard is, can you make it past the screener at WFAN or 1050 and then be taken seriously by the host?

I'm with you though. I work near New York. I can talk Red Sox fine, but as soon as it turns to Yankees or Mets it's a mess. Mets fans will often say "The Yankees will never win a World Series with A-Rod" for example, which is asinine...the Red Sox won World Series with players like Curt Leskanic and Julio Lugo. Maybe the Yankees will never win because of A-Rod, but to think somehow he's actually going to actively prevent makes no sense.

The Mets simply continue to demonstrate that things like throwing and catching the ball fall outside of their range of ability.

I seriously feel in danger from sudden onset of senility when I listen to Joe Morgan. The man is so irrational at times that he is dangerous to the health of his listeners.

David Wright, once again, is off to the races to swing the bat after Wang walks Cora without coming close to the strike zone. Unbelievable.
