Is Atlanta without McLouth and Escobar a major league team?
Just askin b/c Gregor Blacno, Kelly Johnson, Jeff Francouer, and Diory Hernandez don't really seem like major leaguers to me.

Anyway the bigger issue is Redding and Livan. They don't belong on a major league team.

Redding is horrible, I agree. Livan has actually been league-average this year...

If I were David Wright, I think I'd pull a Kevin Brown and just start punching walls until I got myself put on the DL.

Why do so many people insist on saying that NY has the most knowledgable sports fans around? Cone was saying it during the game last night, the host on ESPN radio was just saying it, I hear it all the time. I don't go to a lot of games, but when I do, the people sitting near me are never knowledgeable, people who call into the sports radio shows (not that I listen too much, but when I do) mostly wouldn't know OPS from WHIP at gunpoint, and if there are more than a few clued in people on nyyfans, they're lost in the morass of stupidity.
So where does this come from? Is it just more NYC-centricity? Was it true at one point?

You answered your own question.
And it's not true. There are knowledgeable sports fans in every market, including NY. That said, whether it's because NY is so cosmopolitan and has so much going on or for some other reason, I think people are generally less focused on sports, and therefore less knowledgeable, in NY than they are in many other places.
And I hope the Mets kick the crap out of Wang tonight.

I'm with you though. I work near New York. I can talk Red Sox fine, but as soon as it turns to Yankees or Mets it's a mess. Mets fans will often say "The Yankees will never win a World Series with A-Rod" for example, which is asinine...the Red Sox won World Series with players like Curt Leskanic and Julio Lugo. Maybe the Yankees will never win because of A-Rod, but to think somehow he's actually going to actively prevent makes no sense.

Although it might have been smarter to let it go by and let Wang hurt himself running the bases.

Which makes him perfect when you're forced to watch the Mets. Anything else would be like serving a red wine with fish.

Gary Sheffield, in 2009, is leading off for this team.
