50th round pick in the 2009 draft. Only comment in soxprospects.com was that he dominated at Div III Pomona (.489, 24 HR, 87 RBI in 44 games). 1st Baseman 6'1, 200lbs

Went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored in his 1st professional game.

I have searched and there is very little information on Hedman on the internet, and not one adequate scouting report.

I did find the following article, though (by Jeffrey Jen of the Redding Record), which provides some information on the player:

http://www.redding.c...-boston-toward/

Highlights:

QUOTE
Drew Hedman tried not to think that his dreams for a pro baseball career were gradually slipping away. Instead, he kept hoping that one of the 30 Major League Baseball organizations would use a late-round selection Thursday on him even as the 2009 draft went into the 50th and final round. Then finally as the choices dwindled down to the final few, a voice came across the audio of his computer: "The Boston Red Sox select Drew Hedman, first baseman, Pomona-Pitzer."

"I'll be playing with a little chip on my shoulder," Hedman said. "I want to be that 50th round guy who's playing in Fenway (Park) in a few years."

QUOTE
After graduating for Shasta High school, Hedman headed to Pomona-Pitzer, a D-III school. He had a good junior season that caused some draft talk in 2008. But he returned for a huge senior year (.489, 24 homers, 87 RBI) and gobbled up national awards at the D-III level. His accomplishments were prolific enough for Hedman to be listed in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd section of its June 15 issue.

Actually, my roommate's girlfriend is best friends with Hedman. She thought it was kinda creepy that I could rattle off information about him (DIII player at Pomona, 50th round pick, assigned to Lowell, etc) without knowing him or her telling me. I blame SoSH.

You do know why ballplayers have female friends right? I'll give you a hint, say Drew's last name slowly.

Well I mean, he played DIII ball here. Let's not pretend like he's Stephen Strasburg or anything.

So why has Hedman dropped off the face of the earth with McGuiness getting all of his playing time? You'd think that DiSarcina would rotate him in instead of having McGuiness start every day at 1B and Westmoreland every day at DH.

Dr. T, thank you for making this thread the go-to place on the entire internet for all things Hedman.

By the way, he finally started playing every day on 8/21. Since then, he's 12 for 34 with 5 doubles and 5 BB. Assuming no HBPs or SFs, this means that his line over that 10-game period is 353/436/500.

I'll pinch-hit for the good doctor tonight. 1 for 4 with a double and a K in the Spinners' 4-3 loss. Currently at 272/345/401.

OPS is 747 overall (must be a rounding error in there somewhere), but 873 in August and 912 so far in September.

And here's an interview with Drew dated September 1, from the Spinners' website.
