Kottaras, apparently.

Exposito or Federowicz would hopefully supersede George at some point, and there's always the option of breaking the bank for Mauer.

Sounds like Kline might be a tough sign with the full ride to UVA looming and his recent ascent with the improved mechanics. His family might decide he could make more cash in a few years.

Funny you should mention that:

"It's going to take a high pick and a lot of money. When I say a lot, it's probably going to take anywhere over $5 million (as a signing bonus)," he said.

"Anything under that, I will talk to my parents and everything about it, but, most likely, I'm going to school."

LINK.

So... what's the deal with team's announcing that their picks are related to former major leaguers? I'm guessing they were told by the league to do it to drum up some interest over all these no-names.

Wow Sox drafting a lot of tough signs. Will be interesting to see if they could top the Royals record amount last year.

They've been doing that as long as I've been listening to the draft.

The dynamic is pretty interesting. The tough signs are flying off the board early. Between Stassi and the Tampa picks it almost seems like the Sox got caught a little off guard by that.

If even half of these guys sign, slotting is probably going to be effectively over.

Might be that nobody need to tell them, in this economic climate any little thing you can do to keep your fans happy helps.

Seems like a very nice pick.

Red Sox seeming to go young and high ceiling, high money guys. Very nice to see

Funny thing is Yankees looke more like they have adopted the old Royal approach. Overdrafted a couple kids early, and since have drafted low ceiling college players who should sign quickly for slot (or less)

D1 schools only have about 12 scholarships a year to offer. You almost have to be a first round pick to get a full ride for baseball. 75% is excellent. Most players only get 25%. They rely on players getting academic scholarships and having parents who can afford the costs on their own.

Interesting. I really had no idea getting a full ride for baseball was that hard.

Interesting kid. The mlb.com wrtieup about him, mostly from last summer I guess is far more positive than the BA writeup.

It will be interesting to see if they just try to develop him as a reliever and try to get his stuff back

Yeah, look at the draft video. I doubt he's 240 but he's not exactly a good body or an up-the-middle player.

Pretty weird if he's committed to play RB at Auburn. The REAL Brandon Jacobs of the Giants was at Auburn before falling to third on their RB depth chart. They wanted to move him to LB, so he transferred to S. Illinois (I think)...

I'm guessing Augusta State is in a pretty lame conference. Shannon Wilkerson's statistics are really over the top: 1393 OPS over 226 ABs and more HRs (24) than strikeouts (16).

Both Thomas and Jacobs have the size Belichick loves in a LB.

Seriously though Thomas is huge for a catcher. Can he stay there?

Mauer is 6' 5", 220 Lbs. While there's constant talk he will have to move at some point, he hasn't shown any signs of being unable to handle the position. Of course he's about eleventy billion times more highly regarded than Thomas, so maybe Thomas will either have to shed some weight or find another position.

Maybe like the Pirates they have decided to spend their money in the international market. the Yankee draft looks just laughably bad, they should be able to sign the entire class so far for significantly less than gerrit Cole turned down last summer. Maybe sign the whole class for less than it will cost the Sox to sign either Younginger OR renfroe

I'm pretty sure that was in regards to the Yanks and Phils both having issues conveying their picks in a timely fashion.
