You are bidding on a round of golf with EdRalphRomero and two other SoSHers at the Course at Yale. Winner will get all greens fees and cart fees paid as well as a good meal, a good cigar, and all the beers that it would be a good idea to drink while driving a motorized vehicle. Yale was recently named one of the top 50 most difficult courses in America. It is a cool old course with lots of unique holes. We'll play a relaxed and fun round. I'm about a 21 myself, but I am very happy to bring anyone from a scratch golfer to a guy who doesn't always "make contact with the ball." You can bid on just one round or all three. We'll work out when to play among the three winning bidders. I am open to weekdays or weekends. Three rounds are available.

I won this auction last year and here's my perspective: The course is in terrible shape and not worth playing. ERR really isn't good company. Food sucks. Hell, even the beer tasted bitter.

I strongly urge everyone to avoid this thread.

Nope. I will be happy to rent a set for you at no charge. And yep, it is Yale as in New Haven. It's out past the Yale bowl by Hopkins if you know the New Haven area.

I would never do such a thing.

I was merely attempting to protect the membership from the near-certain disappointment that a winning bid would bring and advising them not to compete rigorously in this auction. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I'm acting as something of a consumer advocate for this particular auction item. So when I end up matching/exceeding the winning bid so that I'm guaranteed one of the three spots, it's only because I'm so altruistic that I've put the welfare of the board ahead of my own personal happiness.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it....

OK, the lack of action from serious golfers here has me concerned that people took anything I said in the first post seriously.

Yale is one of the great old courses in this country. In the last few years, the university decided to restore it and it now plays up to it's reputation. (At least it did last year when I played.) It's truly a great outing on a spectacular layout.

Contrary to my original post, ERR was a great host last year. In fact, he couldn't have been any nicer, although his post in another thread describing some of our conversation proves that he may not be as nice as I first thought. But no matter - the reality is that I was the one who was not the most sociable when we played, if only because it's hard to carry on a serious conversation with your playing partner when you're outdriving him by 75 yards on a consistent basis. (Seriously Sean, you need to be able to keep up with me this year.)

Time to man up and get the value of this round up where it should be.

Yep. And you hit from an elevated tee over a lake to that green. I watched a good golfer 5 put that green last year. It is fun.

9/19-26 is bad for me, as I'll be on the left coast. Weekdays are doable, I will just need enough advance notice to get a hall-pass from my boss.

To be honest, I bid specifically because ERR indicated that weekends were fine with him. (Weekdays are almost impossible for me.)

In August, I can do any day on the last two weekends: the 22nd, 23rd, 29th or 30th. If any of those days works, let's try to lock it down. If not, I start to get into soccer season and that's a pain, so I hope one of those will work for you both.

With enough notice, I may be able to do a weekday, but September is just a tough month in general. I'd be extremely pleased if we could find a day in August.

One last thing - I do understand that we won't be paying for golf, drinks or cigars, but if both of you have established handicaps, bring your wallets in any case, since the odds of us having some action on the side are very high.....

Regardless, I play quickly and with great spirit and am never afraid of a few bets. My buddies insist that my game improves when there is money on the line!
