This is kind of funny, hope it works. If it does, will we have to add 1 inning per start to his innings count? laugh.gif

"In an effort to avoid a first inning as bad as the ones in his last two appearances, pitcher Joba Chamberlain will try a new routine for warming up Saturday before he starts against the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium.

Chamberlain will throw pitches in the bullpen the way he always does. But then he will sit for a brief rest before getting up again to face three hitters standing by the bullpen’s home plate with bats in their hands as if they were Twins batting in the first inning.

“They’re going to be in the bullpen swinging at me,” Chamberlain said with a smile.

Then he turned serious and said the hitters would line up “left-left-right or right-left-right or left-left-left, whatever the situation” to match the Twins’ batting order but would watch Chamberlain’s pitches go by."

like they did with Kevin Brown no? lol I think it's silly, no shenanigans necessary after 2 starts with a bad first inning. Let these kids mature on their own for once.

Hopefully none of the stand-ins look like Youkilis.

Matsui getting the day off, I thought it might be Swisher. also, Crede out with back spasms, he left yesterday's game in the middle.

YANKEES (18-17)
Jeter SS
Damon LF
Teixeira DH
Rodriguez 3B
Swisher 1B
Cano 2B
Cabrera RF
Gardner CF
Cervelli C

Pitching: RHP Joba Chamberlain (2-1, 3.89).

TWINS (18-18)
Span CF
Harris 2B
Mauer DH
Morneau 1B
Kubel LF
Cuddyer RF
Buscher 3B
Redmond C
Punto SS

Pitching: RHP Nick Blackburn (2-2, 4.32).

Well, from a health perspective probably best to rest Matsui like a catcher, day game after a night game.

Girardi clearly going with the hot bats here by keeping Melky and Gardner in.

Joba's an amazingly lucky son of a bitch. This time a blown baserunning call gives him an extra out.

An audible "FUCK" from JtC after the 0-2 hit by Punto.

EDIT - GOLD GLOVER.

He was safe.

That was definitely safe there. Jeter gets lucky as hell with his cute twirling shit.

At least the Twins made that inning easy for him.

Did you see the dirt explode in front of home plate on Span's hit up the middle that Jeter fielded?

Give the Yankees credit, they know how bad the range is of Jeter and A-Rod, so they're putting the softest moss possible in front of the plate and it helped them there.

The Twins are simply incapable of beating the Yankees. The only constant is Ron Gardenhire, so I blame him.

They should just make 5-6 clones of Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. Seriously.

Michael Kay believes Mauer's presence accounts for nearly two runs per game offensively.

Hmmm, a LH-hitting DH batting third hits a home run? I thought that was illegal or something

Teixeira: You knew that was going to fucking happen. 2 easy out and then two pussy walks. Blackburn is a fucking puke.
Doesn't matter what the Twins do, this game is over. So is this series while I'm at it.

I love how Kay thinks he has control over where it freezes too, I'm sure the production guys appreciate it.

4 walks unfortunately, which is probably a combination of dodgy control and Morneau+Mauer being awesome, but I like what I'm seeing from Joba otherwise.

Do the Twins have a third catcher or did they just give up the DH spot to pinch run for Redmond?

Coke seems to be slotting himself nicely into a middle relief role.

Jose Veras just looks lost now.

They called up a third catcher when Delmon Young went to be with his sick mom this weekend.

I know Girardi believes the only way to get him going is to use him, but does he have to pick 1 run games late?

Jeez. Coke bailed him out big-time.

Gardenhire should have let Punto swing away instead of bunting. Veras had nothing and even the crowd was getting on him a little. Instead he opts to bunt and it plays right into Girardis hands with Coke vs the lefty.

Maybe it was better when we walked Justin Morneau.

He and Mauer are the only reason the Twins are even above water right now.

Does this bring up the issue of how saving your closer for the 9th can backfire?

Seriously, Rivera should be out there to face by far the 2 best hitters on the team.

Bad throw by Melky might've been the difference.

Melky's arm kind of sucks this year so far.

This game is on the offense if they don't come back, they've been giving away lazy ABs all day.

.530 OPS from the Twins SS who is nothing at all special on defense.
