Ramirez is expected to attribute the test results to medication received from a doctor for a personal medical issue, according to a source familiar with matter but not authorized to speak publicly.

With the suspension taking effect with tonight's game at Dodger Stadium, Ramirez will not be eligible to return to the team until July 3.

I just saw this on Espn/sportscenter. Wow.
50 games.
They've called up a replacement from their minor league team.

From the article:

Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended 50 games starting today, The Times has learned.

The test result and suspension is expected to be announced later today. The Dodgers informed triple-A outfielder Xavier Paul this morning that he was being promoted to Los Angeles.

Of course it will call in to question the Red Sox years.

This should create a media circus for a while.

50 games =1/3 of $20 mil = $6 mil
wonder if his player option vests or if it had outs in it.

Jose Canseco...right again?

In an appearance at USC last month, Jose Canseco said Ramirez's name "is most likely, 90%" on a list of 104 players that failed a drug test in 2003. The players were promised anonymity for taking tests in 2003; Rodriguez is the only player that has been identified among that group.

Yep.

I'm not shocked by this, obviously, but it's too bad. Manny was such a great pure hitter - perfectly balanced swing, etc - that I've always wanted to believe he was doing it naturally.

Too bad for Joe Torre and the Dodgers; this is likely going to be a circus.

Amazing that these idiots are still using. We have to assume that tons of people were doing it back whenever, but to keep doing it?

A real shame for baseball. I guess it will be spun as a negative for the Red Sox, but I don't see it that way. No team is clean, unfortunately.

I'm surprised. I'm also very naive. But i'm with everyone else, this does stink. I was really hoping he'd entire the hall, clean.
Just think of all the future hall of famers that will taint the hall if the ultimately get in.
