First of all, I'm glad the Boston/NY games got rained out in the end. It'll be a pain to get those games in later in the year, but playing in such bad conditions can lead to hamstring injuries, and no one wants that.

Anyway, NY are Boston's bitches (at least so far), but Boston are TB's bitches and TB recently have been NY's bitches, with NY taking four series in a row going back to May 2008 (three last year, one this year). Sonnanstine/Burnett and Niemann/Pettitte, can't ask for much more than that going in.

Who are you guys rooting for?

Horrific season-ending injuries.

You sound like a NASCAR fan

The Yankees simply have to beat the Rays with those pitching matchups. Yeah, Posada's bat will be missed, and he has been somewhat of a surprise against the run, but having Molina behind the plate should slow down TB's running game a bit, which could be a factor.
OTOH, the bottom of the lineup, the bench and the bullpen have been a giant pile of suck so far, so I won't be surprised if the Yankees blow both games. Or if AJ throws a no-hitter through 4 and then gives up 28 runs in the fifth.

This team drives me nuts this year.

For the Rays. But not because I have an undying hatred for the Yankees, I mean, I do, but right now I want the team lower in the standings to take a few from the team in 3rd place.

Not until after 10 pm, but it's supposed to be a downpour after that.

Rain's in the forecast the whole fucking week here, so if anything, tomorrow's game is a prime candidate for a rainout.

It's also worth considering that the Yankees lineup now features:

Pena/Berroa at 3B
Molina at C
Cabrera/Gardner at CF

Not a lot of hope there.

I think a rainout of both games is a good thing to root for. That will probably force them to schedule 2 (hopefully) bullpen draing doubleheaders, or maybe have them give up an off day later in the season.

If they do play, at least let's have a 15 inning game where all players drop from exhaustion.

Glad to see the universe in order for now and not have to root for the Yankees, though.

FYI this game isn't going to be rained out.

Rain won't be an issue until late tonight.

I honest am not sure who to root for. Normally of course I'd root against the Yankees, but right now the only team I really don't want to see in the playoffs is TB.

I am much more afraid of the Rays and think that, current standings be damned, they are probably the best team in MLB. (I am expecting David Price by mid-season.) So, my inclination is to root for the Yankees.

On the other hand, two losses by the Rays behind the bottom of their rotation won't bother them much. With their youth and talent, they are going to move up in the standings sooner than later. But a loss by the Yankees with their expensive guy on the mound to the bottom of the Rays' rotation would be BIG. So, I am rooting for the Rays.

I expect the Yankees to win both games, actually.

The Rays in a 20 innings blood bath.

The only circumstance I can see rooting for the Yankees involves the Red Sox needing the team they are playing to lose to make the post-season. That's clearly not the case tonight.

David Price is really promising, but he's also a 2 pitch pitcher who's as overrated as he is (presently) good. AAA stats He's got some development to do before he scares you.

Yup. We are far, far away from rooting for the MFYs. Maybe in September again, just like last season.

"You can almost hear the air sizzle from up here in the booth" - Ken Singleton after a Burnett pitch.

That 3B the MFY have is not so good. He just muffed an easy ground ball.

The Rays have once again become irrelevant proving 2008 was a fluke. I'm rooting against the Yankees, although neither will be within 5 of 1st place in August.

Aj: 41 pitches through 2.

Another 5 inning outing is exactly what the Yankees need.

110 pitches for Burnett and Girardi has nobody up in the pen as he gets smacked around in the 6th.

For the most part, this Yankee team looks very much like a dead team walking. Not all that unlike Willie Randolph's 2008 Mets. Is it unreasonable to think that Girardi has to be on a hot seat right now?

I loved the awkward silence in the booth when they were discussing Sloba's douchebag dance and other "characters" in MLB history after Singleton said "Those are the guys you love hanging an L on".

It's funny because on our losses we look terrible and when we win we look like an unstoppable force. It's really too early to say that but I definitely see what you're saying and the empty seats aren't helping the overall feeling.

Well, I was yelling at the screen for Howell to walk in a run and take his chances against the lefty, but he wouldn't listen to me.

Yankees win now.

On the other hand, if the game is called, those runs don't count, right?
