Penny, despite his frustrating outings and questionable ERA, is 2-0 to start the season. Run support is key tonight, given the likelihood of Penny being...well, Penny. Score early, score often. That means hitting them over the head of Choo, not barely within his range at the track.

Despite the nerves, I have no doubt that we're winning this thing. We're too hot, too locked in. Show no mercy. This will not end at Progressive fucking Field against the Cleveland Indians. Get through the back end of the rotation, and we get another fresh start tomorrow. Gut them.

Make it so.

The ghost of Penny past will appear unexpectedly tonight. It will be great theater. I have no doubt it will scare them.

WIN.

I'm not one of the weather gurus on SoSH, but its forecast to rain during the early evening. Any idea if they will get this one in? I hope we don't have another double header so soon (except maybe the same results). The bullpen has been way too overworked (except nights Wake is pitching ;) ) and are likely to get some work in with Penny on the mound if he is in the first game of a doubleheader.

Weather porn lovers, what say you?

Would Ellsbury have been able to get all the way around in the time it took Lowell to get to third?

“My old friend Josh (Beckett, the Sox ace) had a nice comment,” Lowell said. “He said I turned an inside-the-park home run into a triple. That was nice.”

Pokey got one in 2004.

Didn't Trot get one on a ball that Melky misplayed? Or was that ruled an error?

Youks got one in 2007 I believe.

Edit: bocoskboy informed me that it was Youks and not Coco who got it in 2007. Thanks.

Pokey's ITP HR in 2004 was at the BaSH game!

He hit 2 in that game. Tek stole 2 bases.

And lots of people were wondering WTF was with that group of people chanting G38! G38! G38!" like we were at a bingo parlor.

Brad Penny has already appeared in this here crusade. Julio Lugo is a new ingredient.

Then again, so were Hunter Jones, Michael Bowden and Jonathan Van Emery.

I'm not one of the weather gurus on SoSH, but its forecast to rain during the early evening. Any idea if they will get this one in?

Amalie says they should:

It's raining hard here in Cleveland. The tarp has been on the field since just after the final out last night, and it was needed today. It was just sprinking recently, but the rain has turned harder at this point.

The radar shows that there should be a window in which the game can be played, but we'll let you know as we get any updates.

BABIP calls to us. He hungers. We must feed him.

The thing about sacrifices to the gods (which Homer understood perfectly) is that the gods only get the things that nobody on earth really wants, like the fat thighbone or the dregs from the wine bottle. With that in mind, and a hat tip to Barbara, here are a few more things with no conceivable earthly value that should be sacrificed to BABIP:

I wish someone had put up a shot of Lugo sitting in the dugout last night when the NESN camera focused in. I have never seen such misery etched on a human face. He had that expression of utter depression the entire time the camera was on him, and again when it came back to him a minute later.

So in that spirit, welcome back Julio.

"It's going to be cold and it's going to be miserable, but it's supposed to dry up and I think we're going to play," Francona said.

Perfect Lugo weather. He'll be out another 6 weeks (minimum) after this injury.
