Shingo's in the clubhouse, while Chad just made the turn and has the toughest 9 of the course ahead of him.Chad Campbell and Shingo Katayama at -5 lead.
A shitload of low scores today, though I haven't seen too many risky plays.

I predicted that the winning score would be in double digits under par because of the favorable weather forecast. Highs in the 70s and only one day of potential rain.Shingo's in the clubhouse, while Chad just made the turn and has the toughest 9 of the course ahead of him.

Larry Mize at -5 joins the co-leaders.

Ian Poulter is dressed like a colossal Spaulding Smails douchebag today in a pink polo and blue plaid slacks. All he needs is the popped collar to complete the stereotype.
Couples parlayed indecision at 11 into a shitty approach shot, so he settled for bogey. But he just set himself up for birdie on 12 with a sweet tee shot.

And make that a 4-bagger for Furyk -- he birdies 17 to take the lead by himself at -6.

And Campbell birdies 12 to join Furyk at -6. A short, straight-in 6-footer.

Pin placements should help take care of this. You have to think some of these scores will come down a bit tomorrow.

As expected, Mahan double-bogeyed at 12 to drop to -3.

Wow, that's beautiful, and kind of amazing. How amazing would it be to play there? Bet I'd shoot 130.
I bet playing there under non tournament conditions wouldn't make it insanely difficult. You figure 80% of their membership is over the age of 70, so I doubt they have it setup to constantly crush these guys egos.

Tee to green the course seems like it would be pretty playable. yeah there are some bad places to go, but for the most part it isn't exceptionally difficult tee to green. The problem is of course the greens. They are fierce to say the least.
Campbell to -7, and he still has 15 in front of him. He has a chance at 63 today

EDIT - And Freddie Couples moves to even as well after three straight birdies at 13, 14 and 15.
EDIT - Campbell birdied 14 (that's three straight) and stands at -8 heading into the par 5 at 15.

What would you rather win? British, US Open, or the Masters? Has to be Masters, right?

That was a fantastic shot. He closed the deal on his fourth straight mark. He'll shoot 63 if he pars out.Great chip by Campbell onto the 15th green, he's about to go to -9.

Man, he rimmed the cup at 12 on a 20-footer, and has to settle for par to remain at even.Nice recovery by Tiger on 11, from the pine straw onto the green.
Keep in mind he's never broken 70 on day 1 of The Masters. Let's see if he can make some hay on the par 5s.

And he just drained a 25-footer at 14 for back-to-back birds to get to -2.Looks like Tiger's picking up a birdie at 13.
Tiger + "within 5 strokes of the lead" = the rest of the field shitting bricks tomorrow.

That's a shitty miss.Holy crap. Tiger's approach on 17 was pretty sweet. He's got a 4- or 5-footer for birdie.

Nice recovery getting it back within a couple feet, but this is a colossal fuckup as he'll make bogey. And the streak of 70+ first rounds continues....

Andy North said the morning rounds will be much lower scoring today as the winds are expected to pick up this afternoon.
Wind and rain. Storms are forecast for around 3 pm and later. Finishing the round today may be a problem. It's already rained a little here in Atlanta.

So are Larry Mize and Sean O'Hair, both +4 on the day so far, pretty much dropping out of striking range to -1 and even respectively. Zach Johnson's +3 through 7 holes, falling to +1, and needs to get his head out of his ass if he wants to make the cut.Couples is blowing up.
Meanwhile, Jose Maria Olazabal has moved into the thick of things: -2 today and -3 for the tournament.
