are they open for (useful) commentary during the season?

Yes, just like in the past, you can provide commentary and discussion in these threads.

Question for URI/those in charge. Are we trying to limit these threads to news only type threads, or are they open for (useful) commentary during the season?

One thing we want to do with adopt a team is to generate more discussion about baseball in general. If you feel that something is worthy of a new thread then go ahead and start one. We want to avoid mega-threads here too. We can always break something out of the main team thread if it's generating discussion as well.
We would like to see the same standards on MLB as on the main board. We're also going to be using MLB to evaluate lurkers.
We'll post more about this in the near future.

There are a few teams left that only have one contributor. Go ahead and pick one of those and we'll add you to the list.

Just an idea, but one thing could be good to add to the AAT threads would be some links to good team message boards. Not every team will have good ones, but many do. ussmariner is a good one. If you do find some good boards to link to, please put them in the first post of the thread.

We don't want people to think that just the folks who volunteered to head up these threads are the only folks who can post in them. They are just like any other thread around here. If you have some news item or something else that is post worthy, by all means, post away. and if you feel that something would make for good discussion, start a new thread about it.

I never thought you did and I didn't mean to imply that you did. I just wanted to make sure that everyone know they could post in them. Just trying to help create more good discussion here is all. It was just a good opportunity to remind everyone is all.

Just to expand on what Abs said, we just want everyone to understand that all of the Adopt A Team threads are wide open for anyone-members and lurkers alike- to contribute to at any time. Obviously care should be taken to add good, relevent info, but we just want to be absolutely sure that everyone is aware that these threads aren't meant to be exclusive to the one or two people who sign up to keep a primary eye on them. We'd rather repeat and clarify things than leave a lot of room for confusion; the goal is to have people more comfortable posting here, not less.

The official forum guidelines are being put together as we speak, and will be up fairly soon, but we're taking care to get it as right as we can the first time.

I think the kinds of links Abs mentions above would make a great addition to the threads. Coming purely from the standpoint of a poster, I'd love to see links in the 1st post of each thread, so they're easy to find. It would be very cool to be able to get some real time local reaction to all of the other markets with a couple of clicks. Also, if something big happens in another market, there'd be a lot less crap to sift through to get to the meat. I know only thread starters and mods can edit and add to the first post, so if anyone sees something that they think would add something, don't be afraid to bring it to the attention of someone able to make the edit.

One thing that has to be said that I wish didn't is that these links should be used for information and not for sport. In other words, they're not there to be mocked, whether or not it may be deserved. Obviously it's OK to comment on the content, sometimes it's impossible to ignore abject stupidity. The thing that we absolutely don't want is for links designed to add value to instead invite a lot of noise. Please, no "making fun of" threads. We can be more creative than that.

We also have a new E-mail address, soshmlbforum@gmail.com, and see no reason to wait any longer to put it out there. Please don't hesitate to use it, or use PM or backwash to offer any feedback, clarify any issues, or make any comments or suggestions.

One of the guys I work with is a lifelong Mets fan - his family has had season tickets 4 rows behind the 1b dugout since the mid 60s....

Even though I enjoy the torment and heartache Mets fans go through yearly, I'll set that aside and help DH with the "other" NY team.

BTW, Who's got the Yankees? (ducks, and stays down...)

A MFY fan updating a thread about the Mets on a Red Sox board. This should be good.

Do we need a thread for every series? I thought they would just use the original threads. Or maybe one per month.

Hey folks. We'd like for the folks in charge of the team threads to do a wrap-up by the end of October and then start up a new off-season thread to cover FA signings, trades arb etc. Except for the teams still in it of course. We'll lock the old ones once we see the new threads.

If you don't want to continue with your team, let us know and we'll let people know that teams are up for grabs.

Thanks.

The Giants are neat; a team much like myself as a player- great pitching, but I couldn't hit a barn. Lincecum is fun to cover, too, along with great prospects like Bumgarner and Nick Noonan. I'll take them.

I'd like to take over the Rangers if no one has dibs on it already. I notice the guy who started it last season is a lurker who hasn't been on since last May. I've worked in the Rangers farm system off and on for the last three seasons now and I keep close tabs on all the guys I've gotten to know.

EDIT: Just remembered dynomite had actually taken it over. I he doesn't want it, I'd be more than happy.

I'm sure that dynomite would be more than happy for your contributions. Most of the AAT threads had more than just the main person contributing regularly. It's good to get more than just one perspective on things.
