No surprise there IMHO.

22 votes for Brees, 9 each for Peyton and Adrian Peterson.

There would be an MVP award on his mantel as well if his defense didn't let him down.

5,069 passing yards, 34 TDs and a 96.2 passer rating. The 17 picks aren't too pretty, but it's still a well deserved award.
"Dude - you're the bloody ballbag virgin liar guy. You've probably not even got a good wanking technique down yet never mind figuring out how to get a lass to yank your chain." - fletch to SSLE

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?" - Jeff Francouer

Have to wonder if he had gotten the extra 20-30 yards if he would've gotten some more MVP votes, too.

He averaged 7.98 yards/attempt, too, good for 3rd in the league. In 635 passing attempts. No one close to him in YPA is anywhere near his sheer volume. Pretty good stuff.

As a fantasy football owner, I can tell you that 51-29 win against Green Bay on MNF a couple months ago, Brees didn't so much as attempt a pass the final 18 minutes. The Saints went with a heavy dose of Pierre Thomas (15 carries, 87 yards) so Brees completed 20 of 26 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns. He could have thrown for 400 yards easy that night if he wanted to, the Packers couldn't stop him.

Yeah, but in fairness, once they were out of the playoffs the Saints geared their offense around getting him the record. On the final play of season they sent everyone deep and one guy right to the point he needed for the record and he just plain missed the guy. That's the football gods telling you it is not to be. In the grand scheme Dan Marino should hold that record. He was unreal that season for a team he really drove to the playoffs.
For me, part of me will always view the Pats as that crap team in Foxboro that nobody cares about - DeathoftheBambino (and no, he didn't include the receipt for those 500 hours of my life back)

Agree totally, but it's not like Brees wasn't on pace for the record at the time. There were whispers, so I was surprised somewhat when they completely went away from Brees for those final 18 minutes. He definitely had a chance in the last game with that pass and flat-out missed him, which still floors me. But as you said, that's the football gods speaking there.
