Oden said he landed on Derek Fisher's foot while going after a rebound. If only it were that simple. Players land on other players' feet all the time and usually it's nothing worse than a sprained ankle.
Oden came down on his foot awkwardly, leading to his early departure.
The problem is, Fisher didn't recall it that way.
"I don't remember a 7-footer on my foot," Fisher said.
If a 7-footer landed on him, even if he felt only the weight of half of his 285 pounds, that would be something Fisher would remember. For a long time.
As most of you know I can't stand Greg Oden. For those of you that don't I'll give you my basic Oden rant......
I hate hype. HATE it. I hate the "next great superstar" that has everyone fawning over them before they've done a damn thing. Oden is ALL hype. If he was some nobody when he went to Ohio State I doubt there would be much fuss today, and he probably wouldn't have been the #1 pick. He didn't impress me in college (when he wasn't injured......and if they had T'd him up like they should have in the Xavier game he would have been remembered as a goat) and in what teeny tiny time we've seen him in the pros he's looked either completely immoble, fat, or both. He's like a fairly more mobile Kendrick Perkins and yet I've got to be subjected to him preening on the front page of ESPN.com yesterday in a suit with Kobe and Lebron?
The irony here is that I'm fairly certain Oden knows he's all hype and thats why he seems so completely tentative when he manages to actally get out on the court. If you listen closely he's desperately tried to tone down the expectations for himself (save for the interview when he said he wanted to win 10 championships) by using team quotes (I'm not trying to put up numbers, I'm just trying to fit in.......ie so if I go for 6/3 tonight don't get on my ass) and making frequent trips to the trainers office.
Bottom line.......thank GOD we "lost" the lottery that night because if Oden had made his debut for the C's going 0-4 and limping into the trainers (from an injury no one saw) room at halftime never to return I think I would have murdered someone.
Discuss Greg Oden here.
