Great W for Papelbon and really well earned.
And as for Big Papi, my love for that man is moving out of the hetero realm. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

A lot of pitches though, GameDay had him at 43.
That's a lot. Am I the only one concerned about that?

Don't forget Manny is back.

Tito and I can both sleep tonight.
Maybe this was the great plan, get Papelbon his first win.

David Ortiz is a baseball god in Boston. They had better start the statue for him right fucking now.

Ortiz can hit.

Man, what a performance by Papelbon tonight. Ballsy sending him back out there to close out the game, but the kid came through. Me likey.

I have never seen anything like Ortiz, maybe Larry Bird?

Posted 12 September 2005 - 10:24 PM
And we got it. Playing with house money now. I expect more rest for our position players/starters...and more attempts to test some players who are on the playoff roster bubble. All is good.
As has been said many, many times:

Papelbon was a starter until a couple weeks ago, really. So he's likely good up to 60 pitches or so I'd think.

I now know what older fans mean when they talk about Yaz in 67. It must have been like this. Why are there so many less guests that at the end of the 7th inning?
I have never seen anything like Ortiz, maybe Larry Bird?
Honestly, Papi is moving into Bill Brasky territory at this point. "Big Papi is ten feet tall and can eat a hammer for breakfast! He made love to my wife and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! He can take a shotgun blast standing!"

Yes, but I have no confidence yet that the board will handle playoff game threads. Or even late September/early October threads.Glad we ponied up for that liftime membership, huh?
And I'm still stuck at 379 posts, where I have been for about 100 posts.

David is getting our notice as the best since Yaz, but David and Manny are the best since those two Yankee guys. The best in the last 80-90 years.
I can't believe that anyone would trade (read dump) Manny. CRAZY.

Tito made some questionable moves to say the least, but sticking with Papelbon turned out to be brilliant. What an incredible job by Pap...unbelievable win.
David Ortiz is simply a freak of nature. He comes through almost every single time the game is on the line. I have never, ever seen anything like it in my 22 years.

Earlier was John McDonald, the Tigers shortstop who got a game-winning hit off Schilling on Aug. 14. But my alma mater (East Lyme High) vindicated itself last night when Pete Walker allowed Papi to go deep. I hope that erases our debt.
Fun fact: I understand that Pete's nephew is a big Red Sox fan who will cheer for Pete, but never against the Red Sox. He must be happy today.
