"We lost to a team that's not better than us," growled pitcher John Lackey, who gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings. "We are a better team than they are. The last two days, we shouldn't have given up anything."

Go buy a lip.

Everybody still happy this morning? Me, too.

I don't have any real problems with the LAAA, but there is something rewarding about observing the homeward bound opponent whining about how they are really the better team. Maybe they should all get together for a tantrum dance.

Does Lackey really think Garrett Anderson catches that ball Pedroia hit in any other ballpark?

John Lackey channelling his inner Kordell Stewart.

Back to the game, I was initially ticked at Francona for not bringing Lester back out for the 8th until I heard him comment that Lester looked like he was mentally done when he came off the mound after the 7th.

It's impossible to rip Tito for acting on exactly what I've ripped Grady since 03 for ignoring.

Exactly.

There's a lot of irrational stupidity in game threads but, seriously, anyone twisting Francona's words around to suggest he calling calling out Lester transcends stupidity

Luckily nobody did that.

The Angels are the perfect team. They've folded against us in past, yet they play the Yankees hard, every time. (This KILLS Yankee fans.) Their players--except for Vlad, who you can't help but love/fear--are just unlikeable enough, so you never really feel sorry for them. Their manager is a good guy and talented, but he lets that talent get the best of him and over-manages. Their fans carry thunder dildoes and worship rally monkies, thus making it easy to write them off as not being worth batting an eyelid over. What's more, some of their top players (note Vlad is predictably hush-hush right now, that squad's only really classy dude) are being pissy this morning, rather than manning up to the reality that they failed to take care of business at home, and that when you do that against Boston, this is what happens.

All in all, a perfect way to kick off the 2008 playoffs.

ONWARD.

Sorry about that. I recognized the downstairs of "Game On" and the resulting search produced the link. I failed to notice that they were from last year (although Buchholz's attendence should have been a good hint). Looks like it was fun though.
