Sheepishly, I start the Game Thread for Week #2.

Where did it all go wrong? A modest donation to help defeat ALS is a good thing. Do the Football Gods like ALS or something, so they get back at me by unleashing the horrid series of events we witnessed on the field midway through the first quarter of the first game last Sunday?

But, they won the game so here I am. Just like the Pats coaches and players must do, I must look forward. What is done is done, Brady will not be helping the Pats win any football games in 2008. The game was won, so the thread starter comes back for another.

This shit is far from over. Fuck the Jets and their dispicable fans, fuck Eric Mangini and fuck Brett Favre. Starting this week, Bill Belichick reminds the football world why he's the best coach in the business. Jet fans are already chalking this one up, but somewhere in the back of their minds they are petrified. If the Jets can't beat the Pats this week, of all weeks, with Favre making his debut in the Meadowlands and the Pats coming in reeling after the loss of their All-World field general, then how can they hope to contend for the division in the one year where it looks like it might be up for grabs? They know, and the Jets know, that when this is a close game into the third quarter and beyond, the Pats will be the ones who remember what it feels like to play like champions, and the Jets will remember to play like, well, the Jets.

No retreat, no surrender. Go Pats!

My prediction is the Cassel led Patriots stomp all over the cocky Jets. Favre is picked off 3 times, 1 of them which is returned for a TD. 38-10 New England.

Should that happen, I think I might actually be motivated to create an account on TheGangGreen.

The Pats capitalize on Brett the Jets mistakes for 13 points. Cassel can do little on his own except a 4Q FG drive midway through the 4Q. 16-13 Pats

The Defense will take to this challenge.

The Dolphins scored 14 on the Jets last week. This team has way too much talent to only score 16 in this game. Cassel gets a week of real preparation as the team leader and the rest of the team steps up in Brady's absence. 24-14 good guys.

Yes this is going to be a hostile enviorment. Don't you think all of the pundits who are now reducing our chances to do anything this year is going to just put some kind of chip on the defenses shoulder. We have the best coach in the league, our defense (all be it against KC) played a very solid game, and I have to think Cassel developed some kind of coinfidence in game 1. We have dominated the jets before and just 2 yrs ago we made Farve look silly in GB so I see this game as Pats 28-10

Cassel will prove on Sunday in the disgusting Jersey Swamp that he has big ones.

Belichick will up his record to 5-1 against the turncoat Mangina.

28-10? Last time these two teams faced, the Pats won 20-10 at the blade. Pats lose Brady...Jets gain Brett Favre, Alan Faneca, Kris Jenkins, Gholston and another year of Mangini.. this = a +8 gain for the Patriots? Wow, I need E-Van to decipher this convoluted mathematical mess.

You are seriously delusional...or letting the Fanboy in you take over. The Pats could win...but if they do...it will be very close.

The Jets barely squeaked a win in Miami against team with very little talent. The Patriots are very capable of still going into the Meadowlands without Brady and beating the Jets. Favre will be good for a few picks especially if he throws up balls like he did to Stuckey which will be picked by the likes of the Pats secondary.

I agree the came should be close, but I don't see what last year's game has to do with anything. The Pats crushed the Jets the first game last year in the Meadowlands, yet the 2 teams played a close game the 2nd time around.

My argument had MUCH more to do with the JET'S additions and the one HUGE Patriot subtraction, than last years meeting... Last year was only meant as an aside to my argument.

Anyone predicting a 28-10 Patriot win is clearly letting their heart stand in the way of logic and reason.

Jsinger's 38-10 prediction is pure lunacy......Jsing, you are kidding right?

It's time to let the front 7 show its true potential. The Jets don't really have much of a threat at TE so I'd like to see Belichick/Capers let Adalius Thomas/Vrabel loose, much like they did in the Super Bowl. Harassing Favre into a few costly turnovers will be the key for the Pats since the offense just lost a lot of firepower. With Brady, the Pats were head and shoulders above the Jets from a talent perspective. Now, it's probably about even. Richard Seymour, Vince Wilfork, and Ty Warren are capable of making the Jets' offense entirely one-dimensional. If they do, I like our chances as long as Cassel plays a capable game.

Anyone predicting a 28-10 Patriot blowout simply does not know football and is totally disregarding logic, as well as the current active rosters facing off Sunday.

Riiight.
That 20-10 game was also played in a big pile of slop - it was a nasty day outside and no one was playing well.

You are such a character. You have your completely delusional thoughts and post them without any pretense on any section of this site. It's admirable.

You sound like a bitter person. Because the Patriots are extremely talented at SOME positions means they will win by 4 TD's right? And the Jets have done nothing to improve themselves in the off-season...right? I am not some Jets fanboy who thinks that because Favre plays for the Jets, they are now better than the Pats. You seem to have a HUGE chip on your shoulder...so eager to defend the wounded Patriots that you are spouting moronic 38-10 predictions.

As for the Steelers... With the improvements they have made and getting back Hines/Polamalu/and Aaron Smith from injury..along with Woodley and Timmons playing.. truth be told, I liked the Steelers chances before Brady went down...and I LOVE them now.

No..I was not laughing about the Brady injury..that is sick. I was actually bemoaning the fact that when Pittsburgh walks into Foxboro and slaps them around...all I will hear is excuses.

When's the last time Pittsburgh walked into Foxboro and "slapped around" the Patriots? That is just ludicrous. The Pats have owned the Steelers the past decade. Now, it's finally a fair fight.

One of my favorite Patriots moments ever was Deion Branch in the final minutes of the AFC Championship Game destruction of the Steelers asking Steeler fans where their towels went. It was classic.

Keep living in the past...when this year winds down...you can pop your Patriot's Pride DVD in and relive former glory while the Steelers play in the Superbowl. I am quite sure you have not OWNED the Steelers for a DECADE unless we are to discount the 2005 season. Check me if I am wrong, but didn't the Steelers do something in 2005??? Is it their fault the Patriots weren't good enough to beat Denver, while Big Ben and the Steelers annihilated them in Mile High en route to a Super Bowl victory?

Since you wanted to talk about the past...

Okay, enough already. If the Patriots and Steelers were playing this week, this kiddy shit would be more acceptable.

As it is, the Patriots are playing the Jets. I'm hoping the defense and running game help take the pressure off Cassel who throws for something 150 yards and TD.

Patriots 20
Jets 17

and that is a gun-to-my-head, life or death prediction. I think this game is a tossup... I am going with the Jets not being able to cover Moss...or overcompensating for Moss and being beat by Welker/Watson/Maroney...as well as the Pats bend but don't break D + BB.

My point is, the NFL doesn't work like this. The Pats crushed the Jets in Week 1, there were no real significant additions or subtractions from either team, yet the 2nd game was much closer even though it was played in Foxboro.

There are many examples of divisional rivals where Team A blows out Team B the first time around, and the 2nd time around it is flipped.

Taking the result in the 2nd game last year, looking at additions and subtractions, and then trying to get to a final score this time around is a waste of time.

I haven't been this amped up for a football game in a while. This isn't like last year when there was pit in my stomach, because I was scared of them losing. Patriots are underdogs again. Everybody is writing them off, fuck you Bill Simmons. Jets fans are giddy they think the division is there's. I know killing everyone is fun, but proving everyone wrong is better. The team is going to be fired up on Sunday. The fans are going to be fired up. I cant wait.

Well, I can't say I agree that I wasn't fired up last year (you're telling me the miracle in Baltimore didn't pucker you up a wee bit?), but this is very different.

I really feel like we've turned the clock back a few years -- I'm half expecting JR Redmond to come out of the tunnel on Sunday. There are no expectations -- zero. If we lose this game it's not the end of the world; sure the Jets didn't look good against Miami, but they're a decent team with a solid quarterback on the road. No shame in losing a game like that now.

It's the first time since 2001 that I'm going into an important game as a Pats fan with low-ish expectations. Refreshing, in a sick, make-the-best-of-the-worst-situation-possible, when-you-get-AIDS-make-lemonAIDS kind of way.

Absolutely, this is a much different feeling. Back's to wall no more pressure. Sunday and Monday was the funeral now its time to move on. Play one game at a time get to the playoffs then anything can happen. If the New York Giants who were the luckiest team in the history of football according to football prospectus can do it, why cant we. Crazier things have happened.

You went beyond simply noting your disapproval of the game's prediction, as you frequently do. Disagreeing with the prediction is one thing, inappropriate, unwarranted remarks like "drink some more patriot-punch" and calling someone a homer over a simple prediction is entirely another thing altogether.

I think Oil Can is actually more or less right about this game. The Jets are going to be amped up, the Pats are starting a guy who's thrown 90 passes in college and the pros combined and is going to face really strange defenses for the first time in his life, and the Jets are at home in a divisional game. It looks like it will be very tight one way or another

YEA Don't you guys know anything. Remember when Favre in the prime of his career took down the Patriots in the Super Bowl. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS

You make Imgran look like Paul M.

Both true and an amazing slam. I guess being banned the first time wasn't enough of a hint for him.

This team is gonna win most of their games with final scores like the 2003 team, rather than the 2007 edition.

24-17 Patriots.
