Mad Dog Radio With Chris Russo on Sirius XM
#2

I know we all know he's moving to Sirius XM, but there hasn't been a thread started yet, so here it is.
also MAD DOG IS GOING TO BE ON THE MICHAEL KAY SHOW TODAY AT 5PM.
Hmmm..that's interesting on 2 levels...
1- Michael Kay was the direct competition to M&MD for years, and remains Francesa's competition now...
and
2- Why is ESPN 1050 radio in NYC putting on a guest who will undoubtedly promote satellite radio? ESPN radio does air on Sirius, so I guess there is a loose connection there...

yeah im sure it has to do with michael kay airing on sirius/xm and promoting both shows as much as they can, and its a little FU to francesa i guess.
also i dont think russo wouldn't have come on if francesa was on today, he's off for a mets game.
makes sense that they would book it today

Actually, Michael kay isn't on Sirius/XM....he's WAY too NY for that station...ESPN radio has a national network that broadcasts from Bristol, CT, and has a full schedule of national shows...1050 ESPN is one of their local affiliates, and like other local affiliates, can pick and choose which of those national shows to pick up locally, and which to replace with local programming... The national show during the Michael Kay hours is something called "Sports Nation" with John Seibel and Orestes Destrada.....its not very good...

Well I stand corrected...
kay only mentions that they are on XM radio every other segment.
kinda confusing though...
great interview with russo. i like how mad dog turned the tables and started interviewing kay!

They had a great back and forth. Hopefully they get a good response from that bit and call into each others shows somewhat regularly...Dog needs as many Yankee fans as possible to ride. Dog calling Kay out on how he says things on his radio show he can't say during the broadcast was fantastic.kay only mentions that they are on XM radio every other segment.

it was great to hear kay struggling to get command of his own show back!
heres the audio if anyone is interested, or missed it:

Good interview and also got out of that is Mad dog is doing a show today. He's on Sirius 123 at 2pm today.
I am a sirius subscriber, and listen to it online regularly...but it doesnt seem that channel 123 is part of their online radio package yet (I'm sure it will be soon)...Boo.
Anyone know how to get to this online?

Thanks for posting that link to the Chris Russo/Michael Kay interview on Kay's show. I always love dog, but I ended up being surprised by my reaction to Michael Kay, who was just fine in that context, and pretty honest with his assessment of the Yankees. I was surprised because i can't listen to him on the broadcasts. It didn't seem like the same guy. Reminded me of my theory that the Ralph Kiner who broadcasrt for the Mets had to be a different guy from the one in the Hall of Fame, because any Hall of Famer would understand the game better. But then Kiner began to grow on me.

DUDE. im telling you, people kill me for liking Kay's radio show, i DONT care for his play by play, but i deal with it cause i live in NY now and thats how i HAVE to watch yanks vs. sox games, etc.
you nailed it, he's a COMPLETELY different personality on his radio show, possibly harkens back to his beat writing days.
he's a lot more insightful and honest, and isnt afraid to kill ny teams/players on his show. SOMETIMES he does get shit wrong, but for the most part his show is good.

Looks like Chris (Mad Dog) Russo has reached out to one of his old pals to join him on Sirius XM Radio.
Radio stoolies say Steve Torre, a 1010 WINS sports anchor, will likely join Doggie, and probably not only as an on-air performer. If he makes the jump, Torre will be the program director of Russo's new “Mad Dog Channel.”

He was god awful, stumbling through everything and getting tons of facts wrong. I couldn't believe this was the same guy that people on here think is great - does he not do the lead on the other show so he doesn't need to carry things? If not, it was just stunningly bad.

I don't know this guy at all, but I heard it last week some time (in the 5 oclock hour) on XM 144. Callers were calling in, congratulating him on his new show so I know it had to be him.

You either love him or you hate him.
I happen to love him. He's rough, he's not refined, he doesn't sound like every other voice on the radio. But he's passionate, and thats what I like.

Especially while interviewing. Doesn't matter if it's a major market GM, a league commissioner, a best selling author, whatever: if he believes he's right and he doesn't get the answer he's looking for, he'll tear his guest a new one.......You either love him or you hate him.

He is a normal guy. He's a dork. He has ridiculous amount of passion for sports and he is very genuine (pac man rant). Once and a while he can actually be pretty funny. And on top of everything he can't stand the yankees. There is nobody I would rather listen to on the radio. When he calls the chiefs qb "brady" croyle you just sit there and laugh, because thats dog.

I'm a little annoyed...I called Sirius TWICE last week to find out if his show would be streaming as part of their internet radio package, and they said yes (they stream mostly everything that is original content...Foxnews, ESPN radio, etc they cant stream)....
Today...5 hours before kickoff, there is no link to his station anywhere to be seen online...

Get a free XM trial...I just got mine and am listening online to XM 144...no credit card required...just need a legit email address.
I feel a little bit traitorous, even knowing Sirius and XM are one company now...

He's got a ton of great stories to cover that should entice listeners from every corner of the country. But he has to start off with Zambrano's no-hitter, while stirring the pot on the Miller Park venue issue.I wonder what he will lead with after his initial "aaaaaaaand" welcome. NFL or College Football or MLB?
After that, it's USC blowing out tOSU, highlighting Beanie Wells' absence. Next, the Broncos beating SD, focusing on the blown fumble call. Then, the Colts' comeback vs the Vikings. After that, the Phillies' sweep of the Brewers and the Mets' continued bullpen struggles.
Later on he can chat up the upcoming Sox-Rays series, but I expect most of the show will be NFL-focused (Pats beat Jets, Steelers win 10th straight over Browns, big wins for Washington, San Fran, Buffalo & Carolina) leading into tonight's Cowboys-Eagles game.

How does one go about this? Do you need to be a Sirius subscriber and already have a satellite radio to qualify? Link?Hey, Sirius subscribers...it looks like Sirius is dropping the ball here and not broadcasting the show online...BUT....I figured out a way around it...

I believe you. But not for me. I can of course use my sat. radio, and will, at 2, but I like listening online, and for some reason can't. All other sources of sound work on my computer (I am listening to Fat Frank right now). I have written to Tech at XM. I'll be interested to see if they answer. . . .I'm listening.
Its the Cal Ripken show.
Consider yourself lucky...lol.
Seriously though, its working.
