Have there been two bigger disappointments in baseball than the Yankees and the Tigers? The first game of a brutal stretch for the Yankees that may finally bury them once and for all.

ARod singles with the bases loaded no outs...2-0 Yankees. Clutch!

What the hell has happened to Justin Verlander this season?

He says (at least publicly) that he wasn't hurt but he wasn't throwing nearly as hard the first 2 months of this season. Then he seemed to get it back together but now I see his ERA the last month plus is still a mediocre 4.5 or something like that.

Verlander shits himself in the first inning against these fuckin stiffs.

What a train wreck the Tigers are. Hey Leyland have another cigarette.

It's that stupid mustache (Gameday). Makes him look like a bartender in a gay bar.

The funny thing is A-Fraud hit another routine double play ball if the AAA abortion that is playing 3b for the Tigers could have fielded the ball.

That'll do it for Verlander. 1.2 innings, 7 runs.

Edit: Make that 8 charged to Verlander.

Although I'm sure when he pitches against us it will be a Cy Young performance.

Don't be too hasty. This may turn into a 13 - 12 game yet. Pontoon on the mound.

There not going anywhere, they keep losing series left and right. The Tigers just suck.

Terrible job. Ahead 2-0, bases loaded, 1 out and he swings at a pitch out of the zone and pops up.

I was listening to a Tigers game at worth the other day and the radio guys were saying how shocked they are by the Tigers effort level. The main announcer guy said that he had never seen an MLB team dog it as much as the 2008 Tigers. He said that once it was clear that their playoff chances were dead, the majority of the team just quit.

Golden opportunity against a lousy pitcher and they let him off the hook.

Gary Sheffield, clubhouse cancer, certainly doesn't help. he's signed for one more year, good luck with that, Leyland.

The MFY are probably relaxed now that they're away for the toilet. In the Bronx they know every time they screw up the fans will Boo the shit out of them. Especially A-Fraud.

Before Leyland turned into a broken down old man he would have reamed Sheffield's ass for dogging it to first like that.

This could be one of those 19-17 games.

Edit: That's it for Ponson. Gets spotted a 11-2 lead to open the 3rd and departs with runners on the corners, no outs, and 3 runs in.

The MFY could make worse moves than dumping Cano. What a defensive liability.

Going to your bullpen with an 11-2 lead in the 4th inning is a fucking embarassment.

MFYs suck. Their pen has to be on fumes, a team can only handle so many 4/5 inning starts

Your 19 - 17 is looking more likely than my 13 - 12. Of course, maybe your 19 - 17 looks paltry in a couple more innings. :)

Not that there is much more than life-support left for the Skanks, but if they blow an 11-2 lead and lose this one, you can pull the plug. The players will.

UPDATE, 2:51 p.m.: Ponson’s last three games: 9.2 innings, 24 hits, 18 runs, 17 earned runs, six walks, four strikeouts. That’s a 15.83 ERA. What compelling reason is there to continue starting him every five days?

Yeah, but he kept them in the game today. Gave them a chance to win. Other tired cliche. :)
