In all seriousness, should Girardi bench Cano for a few days or something? His play on this roadtrip has been nothing short of lazy and careless.

Weren't there some stats last year that showed he sucked in day games, intimating he partied late into the night in NYC and was burnt out? Not sure if there is a nightlife in Minny though.

He should just take away his granola bars and trail mix. Obviously taking away his ice cream before bed wasn't enough punishment.

No. The Yankees can't afford to take a bat like Cano's out of the lineup. And yes, he is having a substandard year by his standards, but he is still a threat every time he plays.

I have no idea what happens behind closed doors, but I'm surprised that Arod and Jeter don't get on Cano more often for his "lazy" style of play.

I can see that, we let Manny get away with that kind of bullshit, but Cano's not nearly the threat Manny was.

That Cano deal isn't looking so hot.

Got a mini-Manny Ramirez on your hands there? If Cano ever were sent somewhere else, I doubt if he'd play any different, unlike the Boston tanker Manny.

Yeah, the Twins suck so much they only have 2 more wins than the Yankees this year! Nevermind that they've scored 14 more runs and have almost the same staff ERA. And that .645 winning percentage at home this year is just a statistical blip... doesn't mean anything.

Despite trading Santana away, the Twins are actually still pretty good.

The Twins suck.

Mediocre lineup, and below average staff = suck. Add their small ball garbage and they're a generally unlikeable team.

You mean the Manny who put up a .299/.398/.529 line with Boston this year? Or the Manny who had 161, 184, 160, 152, 153, 165, 126 and 139 OPS+ in his years here? Yes, his act had grown tired and it was time for him to go. But Manny was anything but a tanker. He was simply one of the most produtive hitters to ever wear the uniform.

you know what i mean! i understand all the stats and the fact that they are a contender, but im talking about displays like last night extra innings, it was hopeless for them to score a runs.

I don't think anyone who thought he "tanked" argued that he wasn't a good hitter. That's something that he didn't have to put much effort (relatively speaking) at all into to be good at.

You must have a pretty broad definition of suck, then. Only 4 teams in the AL have scored more runs than them, and only two of those 4 are playoff contenders. Their pitching is certainly not a strong point, but this is a team that could make the playoffs.

By most accounts, he worked extremely hard at being a great hitter. Where are you getting the idea that he didn't have to try to be good at the plate? I have no illusions about Manny's departure. He made himself enough of a pain to be moved out of here. But to label him a tanker is unfair and a bit short sighted, IMO.

You could probably make the same case about the Red Sox down the stretch in 2005* with all the walk off drama. Does that mean the 2005 offense's numbers should have been taken with a grain of salt?

*I am in no way saying the 2008 Twins offense is in th same category as the 2005 Red Sox.

More awesome luck. Mo giving up an opp field jack on a 0-2 count to a hacktastic Young. I just really don't like the way the Twins play baseball.

They're 7th in OBP, 10th in SLG. Their flukish runs total doesn't mean they're not a shitty offensive team that has somehow managed to be 5th in the AL in runs scored.

I'm not trying to make the case that they're a favorite to win the WS, but insisting they suck is a bit much. (not that you made the claim, but that's what I was arguing against)

At worst, I think this is a mediocre/average team. When they're hot, they're dangerous to anyone.

And it would have been nice if he put similar efforts into other facets of the game, which is what people take issue with.
