[Hendu's Gait]

Finished watching some of the Women's Soccer games (thanks DVR technology). Very impressed how, with the exception of the Brazilians, there was little diving and bit**ing, compared to the Men's game. The US looks in trouble, even with the win. The dropoff from Wambach to Rodriguez and Kai is huge. The US seems to lack finishing ability, especially at forward, compared to Germany, Brazil, Norway, and some of the other top teams. It will be their fatal flaw.

Angela says we don't frickin' need Abby! Great tournament so far for her, although I still stand by the comment that they don't have a true finisher like Prinz or Cristina, (nor a dynamic playmaker like Marta or Sawa). What the US does have though, is a lack of a weakness and true domination on the flanks. Oreilly and Chalupny were amazing today thoughout. Chulapny with a great goal, cutting in the middle of the 18 and rifling a high shot, and Oreilly with a great center that Hucles finished after Tarpley deftly stepped over the pass. wow! All 4 goals were beautiful. And then you have the bonus of a Heather Mitts to gaze at.

Carli Lloyd misses a breakaway in the 92nd minute, while Japan gets a "heart and grit" /Brandi (man, has she not aged well) garbage goal in the 94th. If that happened an hour earlier, it would feel different than it does now.

I don't know Soccer. Seems like Brazil is the better team so far, but neither team has had anything resembling a scoring chance as far as I can tell through 35 minutes.

Marta did just make a breathtaking move to split 2 defenders who had her locked down, but then missed the net by 25 feet on her shot

I think she can play CMF for 1/2 the MLS teams . . .

When she broke 6 ankles on one move at the end of the 1st half, my jaw hit the floor.

True, I have no real interest in the sport, but she is just absolutely awesome to watch. Just absolutely unreal.

Marta just did it again, with an unreal move past 2 men, and was absolutely robbed by the US keeper on a blistering shot from close range

Hope Solo has been living up to her words from 10 months ago. (for those who missed it, she was benched for the 4-0 loss to Brazil in the 2007 World Cup despite starting every other game that tournament, and then ripped the soon-to-be-fired coach Greg Ryan right after)

Wow, Rodriguez absolutely chokes on a breakway on goal, with about 5 mins left in regulation.

Heavy pitch, Humid conditions. And there's a lack of quality play which is a shame but the players look knackered.

Brazil put them under a ton of pressure, and the US was sloppy at times in their attempts at clearing the ball, but they ground out a goal and the gold.

Very fun game to follow.
