abc. nbc only paid for the first week of coverage. They're going to have zombie Jim McKay to call the races. It's going to be very exciting.Where are we going to watch that?

If Lane 8 is so good, why does the top swimmer get Lane 4?
Everyone knows 8 is 2 times 4.

Mentioned up-thread, but lane 8 is Libby Trickett, current WR holder and the one to beat coming into the Olympics. She initially didn't qualify for the final but snuck in due to another swimmer's DQ.If Lane 8 is so good, why does the top swimmer get Lane 4?

Why would we confuse Michael Phelps for Dara Torres?
That's my pick for most bizarre statement of this Olympics.

Yeah, but the announcers were implying that Lane 8 has an advantage. If it's an advantage, why doesn't the top qualifier swim there? Or is the advantage of Lane 4 greater?

OK never mind. Obviously I'm not able to watch the coverage because of the MOTHERF'N tape delay.Yeah, but the announcers were implying that Lane 8 has an advantage. If it's an advantage, why doesn't the top qualifier swim there? Or is the advantage of Lane 4 greater?
Lane 4 is traditionally where the top seed swims. Similar to track, you get the best view of your opponents. The outer lanes usually suck because you have the wall which causes extra waves and the water gets rockier, but in this pool there's a lane line and a gutter so that effect is mitigated. Yeah but I have no idea why anyone would say the outer lanes are better. Maybe they meant there just happened to be an exceptionally good swimmer out there this time?

If Crocker beats him tomorrow,he will be persona non grata in the US. That's a stunning statement for a potential US Olympic gold medalist.
Yeah but it's not happening. Phelps just cruised in at 50.97 less than half an hour after breaking his own world record in the IM. Rested up for the final tommorow, he will come close to the the fifty second mark and win it going away.
Book it.

No, they have mentioned it a couple of times in different races. From what I can grok, your mitigated equals almost non-existence of rockiness from the wake... and the fact that they only have the wake from one swimmer rather than two makes it a better lane than usual.
That being said... it seems most of the races are being won from the middle of the pool.

Wow, what an amazing job by her. Swam the race of her life. Beat her personal best by over 2 seconds. Peaked at the absolute perfect time.
my god, Phelps. That margin of victory in an event like the 200 IM is insane. He really is Secretariat in the water.

No he won't. He's never been close to Crocker's record of 50.40. He will probably win, but no WR.
Crocker FTW!

And the nicest, most awesome, person you will ever meet. GO IAN GO!
