What channel is everyone watching swimming on?

NBC's showing men's gymnastics, and none among USA, CNBC or MSNBC are showing any Olympic programming until midnight EDT.

They showed Phelps' Semi right before they cut to gymnastics. Or it might have been in between a little gymnastics and the gymnastics on now, I can't remember. Either way, it was about 15 minutes ago. (On NBC.)

FWIW, Natalie Coughlin is cute. She is able to pull off the shower cap look, much more so than Margaret Hoelzer.

She does the hair down thing too. When NBC did their puff piece on her, she looked the classic wholesome northern California chick.

Thanks all. Thought I was getting fucked over by Comcast for the 34,349,221th time since the Adelphia buyout...

I hope not, I really want him to get all eight -- even more now that Spitz has mouthed off

I didn't see this linked anywhere in the thread, but holy shit -- could Spitz be a more arrogant motherfucking prick?

EDIT - Thanks, Lady Guin.

Phelps is the greatest Olympian of all time.
Sorry Carl.

Carl Lewis isn't the one you have to apologize to for making this arguably incorrect statement.

Phelps is phenomenal...
His Mom on the other hand is fucking annoying, maybe it's not all her fault, since NBC apparently needs to show her every 2.43 seconds, human aspect of the story blah..blah..blah

Sorry Carl.

Had to be linked to.

And I still think that that 800m comeback in 1972 was greatest Olympic moment ever.

Interesting article on the new swimsuits: http://www.dailytech...px?newsid=12636. $500 and has to be replaced every ten swims? Jesus.

Katie Hoff lost the gold in the 400 meter freestyle race by 7/100th of a second. How small is 7/100th of a second? Maybe Katie needs to grow her finger nails.

called my daughter, who received a swim scholarship to college and swam competitively for 14 years, and asked her the question. She told me to look at the tips of my fingers. 7/100th of a second is about the length of a fingernail. Adlington touched out Katie Hoff by that measurement.

Are they showing the women's 200m butterfly semifinal tonight? I want to see Kathleen Hersey swim - she won her heat this morning. My younger brother went to homecoming with her a few years back.

Edit: And by this morning I mean last night, I guess. Damn fer-ners.

Looks like severe imprints from the goggles. She may need to loosen them up, or not keep them on her forehead for (apparently) hours at a time.

Dang, pretty impressive. I've actually seen him swim in person before. Is he the greatest/most dominant athlete I've ever seen? The only competition I can think of is seeing Tiger shoot a 63 and yr. 2000 Pedro.

He didn't seem all that sharp on the turns like he normally is -- tends to stay underwater longer. The guy is just that much better than everyone else that he can break WR and win a gold when he doesn't swim his best race.

Yes. I fully expected he'd go under 1:52. He didn't look as sharp on his turns as he usually does and didn't really open up until the last 50. Still, if "only" breaking his own world record by .07 is his weakest swim...

Maybe he's fianlly getting a bit tired. Or not. Or maybe he saved a bit for the relay. Who knows? I just want to see him get eight golds, especially after Spitz just made such an ass of himself.

Yep. The 4 x 200 freesyle relay. Phelps blew away his own world record in the individual 200, but it will be interesting to see if he can get close to that now. The US is heavily favored in this one. I'm not sure which leg he's swimming. If he's the anchor and they're way ahead, he might cruise to save some energy for 100 fly and 200 IM.

Phelps now saying that his goggles leaked big time during the race and could barely even see the walls coming in. That could very well explain "only" breaking his own world record by .06. He's leading off the 4 x 200, so I expect him to get after it in that one.
