Yes. And it's even weirder when you hear her talk. Sounds like she's from Connecticut or something. So, the swimmer from Zimbabwe---is she a native of that country?

Yes, according to Wiki:
Kirsty Leigh Coventry (born in Harare, Zimbabwe September 16, 1983) is a Zimbabwean swimmer and world record holder. She attended and swam competitively for Auburn University in Alabama, in the United States. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, in Athens, Greece, Coventry won three Olympic medals: a gold, a silver, and a bronze. She was subsequently described by Paul Chingoka, head of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, as "our national treasure".[5] Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has called her "a golden girl". [6]

It has to suck for Phelps to swim, go to medal ceremony and then have to immediately swim again.
Am I wrong, or did they at one time start doing all of the medal ceremonies at the same time...like, as opposed to right after the events, they would have a bunch of them back to back? Sometimes even much later in the day?
I could swear they did something funky like that once...

Noticed that the Korean kept his flowers.

It would suck more if he didn't have to go to the medal ceremony.

I'm pretty disappointed in the medal ceremonies, btw. They seem sort of cheap and cheesy. Like they're in some hallway or something. I no likey.
Really? The ceremonies are always the same, regardless of the venue. These seem fine. Simple, short & sweet. The part where they raise the flags always does it for me.

It really was hard to imagine anyone being better than him in the foreseeable future back then. He has one of the two coolest nicknames in swimming history, too.Ian Thorpe was really really good. But he is a dick.
Phelps will make him an afterthought over the next few days.

Nope. It's a semi. And even on cruise control, he probably gets top seed for the finals. Phelps OWNS the 200 fly. Phelps has the world record at 1:52.09. I'd have to check, but I dont think anyone else has come within two second of that. He'll go a low 1:51, maybe even 1:50 & change inthe finals.
I don't think anyone beats Phelps now. The Frenchies had the best shot until Lezak took a giant shit on the loudmouth.

Not when there's a Liesel Jones dominating and a race for silver.

I hope not, I really want him to get all eight -- even more now that Spitz has mouthed off.

In Salt Lake, and most recent Games I can recall (mostly winter, though) some medal ceremonies are right after the event at the venue, and others are at a central "downtown" type spot - with no real protocol for which ones are where, or why.I think they did something like that at Salt Lake as well, but I could be wrong.
