He'd never say something like that, especially with the respect I'm sure he has for Phelps.

Also, Phelps gave up his spot in the medley relay finals in '04 so Crocker would have a shot at gold. Although it didn't really matter, they both got gold medals as part of the relay team and the US would have won the race handily regardless of whether Phelps or Crocker swam the buttefly leg, it was a very classy thing to do. I'm sure Ian would only speak very highly of Phelps.

Apologies for the Crocker and Thorpe mixup. I saw the name Ian in the post and immediately thought that was the swimmer who ragged on Phelps and as a result became part of Phelps' motivation.

Coming up tonight:

10:16 Men's 200m Freestyle -- Final (Michael Phelps)

10:23 Women's 100m Backstroke -- Final (Natalie Coughlin)

10:31 Men's 100m Backstroke -- Final (Aaron Peirsol, Matt Grevers)

10:48 Women's 100m Breaststroke -- Final

Some of these will be interesting....Phelps qualified 4th here, as he was conserving a little last night for the 4x100 free....

In the 100m backstroke, Peirsol is the defending champ, but I think you gotta call Grevers the favorite. He looked far better in the semi.
