Thank God for Chris Paul. Just bench Kidd and use CP3 and Deron instead.

Pretty much every time the US has a fast break lane to the hoop, a Greek defender will turn his back and stick his hip into the USA player as they go up for the layup. That foul is called 99% of the time in the NBA, more like half the time here.

Not yet. Nobody knows how to run it up like NBA guys. We are just getting started.

BTW, Bosh deserves some credit this tournmanet. He isn't strong enough to guard these big centers but he has played his ass off.

Great game for the US. D-Wade is killin' it, LBJ is everywhere, and CP3 is in the lane at will...I had my doubts about this team when it came to buckling down and playing the other elite teams..boy was I wrong...we ARE the best in the world, and a gold medal is practically a guarentee at this point.

Fun game to watch. Greece was manhandled. This team does look tough to beat, far different from the slip shod, ineffectual 2004 team.

Amazing what happens when put together a team that actually knows how to play team ball.

- Kobe's intentional foul wasn't a foul. The Greek pulled the chair out from under himself.
- I thought Team USA kept their composure pretty well in the 1st. I wanted to jump into the TV and start throwing elbows, starting with the Lithuanian official.
- Speaking of which, I enjoyed the Carmelo Anthony Tornado of Elbows on every rebound in the second half.
- Good to see that Kobe is the only guy out there who brought his awful NBA one-on-one offense today.
- On the other hand, DWade is unbelievable. Smart player. Has even adapted his game to get easy free throws under FIBA rules.
- LBJ is a total freak. Some of his blocks looked like afterthoughts.

Just watching the game on DVR now.

That Kobe intentional was a text book intentional. He felt he got hit on the break, he got physical because of it. The ball bounced around, Spanoulis grabbed it...Kobe took a hard whack and then shoved him. Two shots and the ball.

Bosh and Wade were phenomenal in the first half. And Lebron is just a beast on the FIBA court.

Coach Kaye needs to pull Kobe aside and tell him to knock it off with the 3 pointers. He's hit 3 all tournament on like 25 attempts. That will kill them against a good team, hopefully not Saturday against Spain.

"Kobe Bryant's New Skin Condition Speaks Volumes"

Aug. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Kobe Bryant, basketball's Mr. Cool, got goose bumps during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

He's heard about goose bumps. He's even seen goose bumps. But, and get this, he'd never actually experienced goose bumps.

Didn't get 'em on draft day. Hearing his name called, shaking hands with National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern, fulfilling a lifelong dream -- that wasn't enough. Meeting Jerry West didn't do it. Not his first game with the Los Angeles Lakers, either. Not his first championship. Not his first Most Valuable Player Award. Nothing.

``First time,'' he said.

China- Germany 59-55
China usually is the ideal opponent. No guard pressure and no over the top defense.
Unfortunately Germany had a horrible game and they didn't deserve the win.
At least they played hard. Down 13 with under 7 minutes left they finally hit some shots and cut it to 54-52. Then Dirk tied it with a clean jumper....but wait ..travel...travel?? unbelievable call, on the other end Yao travels, of course no call, 56-52, Dirk for three, then Germany with the chance for the lead with just over a minute left, Dirk drives to the basket....offensive foul....
Down 4 with 18 seconds left, Dirk was fouled for a whole 2 seconds until he lost the ball......unfuckingbelievable. The refs deep in the Chinese asses especially Eddie Rush.
I expected this joke in the fourth. If Germany only played a decent game it wouldn't have mattered.

Wow, the United States tore up that 2-3 in the half. Fantastic ball movement and perimeter shooting. Aside from some sloppy turnovers, they played flawless on offense.

On defense, they have continued to be very aggressive. Spain's FG% is mitigated by all of the forced turnovers.

I really wanted to see what Rubio could do in this game, and so far I can see why people are raving about this kid. He already runs the Spanish team like an NBA PG, and his skills are ridiculous (that one handed alley oop was a great example). Also, when Paul and Williams have tried to body up on him, he has done well to not back down physically. He is going to be a great NBA player.

Friggin incredible. The guy is all over the place. If I was a betting man, I would bet over on whatever Vegas has the Heat winning this year.

Awesome game but it means nothing until the gold medal game. Keep playing like this, including the hot shooting from the FIBA 3. If we learned anything from the '08 Celtics it is that defense wins championships.

So who would be the next toughest opponent for the US? Off the top of my head all I can think of is Argentina and maybe Russia or the Aussies but even those two are probably a stretch.
