Okay, I know I'm breaking with tradition and potentially offending the I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery Gods..........but, it is 9/11, and in rememberance of those who gave all on that day, in any capacity, I will start this a bit early (consider it a game thread moment of silence).

It is hard to hate NY on 9/11, but always easy to ahte the MFY's............

With that in mind, Wake, knuckle them to their knees...........

In honor of those who served then and those who serve now to protect freedom, lets see the good guys (US of course!!) take another.

Having won yesterday with G38 looking like he's turned a corner makes this game a whole lot less stressful. The Sox winning would be a sweet, happy thing. It would make me love the world.

Wake with a chance to put a serious dent in the MFY playoff hopes. I think Edgar comes through with a big game today. Win today Wake, and the road to the postseason gets that much smoother.

I take a little powder
I take a little salt
I put it in my shotgun
and I go walking out

Chuba-chuba
Woley-boley
Looking high
Looking low
Gonna scare you up and shoot you
Cause Mr. Charlie told me so

I won't take your life
Won't even take a limb
Just unload my shotgun
and take a little skin

Chuba-chuba
Woley-boley
Looking high
Looking low
Gonna scare you up and shoot you
Cause Mr. Charlie told me so

You know when you start having dreams about the Red Sox things are getting bad. I had a dream about this game last night, and I hate to say it, but in my dream we lose. Not the end of the world to leave the Bronx up 3, but I was still pissed as hell when I woke up. Needless to say I'd like to see a different actual result today.

Well LR, I got reverse I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery to what you got.

I was listening to my iTunes this AM while cruisin' SoSH. I had it on random shuffle.
First, my Mike and the Mad Dog clip "Hell Freezes Over" from last October came on.
The next song was Sweet Caroline.
Followed by Dirty Water.

I kid you not.
I say it's a cosmic sign that we win today.
We WIN TODAY

Win today, and it is a 5 game lead with 20 games to go.

3 vs NYY
4 vs OAK
3 at TB
7 vs TOR (4 home 3 away)
3 at BAL

Let's put a strangle hold on the division today.

Add to CPT thoughts
Silence to think of how we all can do better in honor of the victims and survivors of September 11 and Hurricane Katrina.
Baseball on a gorgeous day September day is a way to honor all.

A perfect game would be innings of a flickering baseball by Wakefield followed by lights out baseball by Foulke!

From the AP preview -

Johnson hasn't disappointed in four starts against Boston, going 3-0 with a 4.62 ERA. He beat the Red Sox 7-4 at Fenway Park on July 16, yielding four runs and eight hits over 6 1-3 innings to help the Yankees take three of four in that series.

After taking the series opener 8-4 on Friday night, the Yankees were shut down by Curt Schilling in Saturday's 9-2 loss. Now, the Yankees will ask Johnson to help them win this series and climb back within three games of the division leaders

Johnson hasnt disappointed? I guess the three wins covers up the fact that he hasnt pitched very well against the Sox. Today is huge - with Schilling just having pitched a gem. There is big time pressure on the Unit to come through - not only to salvage any chance at the division - but with the Indians getting hot and looking to get a firm hold on the wild card.

Tek has a 1.417 OPS against Johnson, so this would be a great day to put him in at DH.

From the NY Post: Bronx is Sox' Road Home
"Ball game Red Sox 9, Yankees 2.  Which is when a strange thing happened.
You couldn't hear the first few notes of ``New York, New York'' (the Liza version, the one they reserve especially for seven-run losses to the Red Sox). You couldn't hear them because there was a deafening spasm of noise spreading through the grandstand, and just about everywhere you looked inside Yankee Stadium you could see row after row of red shirts, hear choruses of cheering"....    Mike Vaccaro, from online Boston Herald  http://redsox.boston...rticleid=102011

Priceless.

A win today means that if the Red Sox go 11-9 in the next three weeks, the chokewad Yankees would have to go 16-4 to get the division.

In other words, a win today, for all intents and purposes, relegates the Yankees to the wild card. If that.

Win today.

Damon at DH is a nice surprise. I figured he, Ortiz, Trot and Tek would be given the day off. Also thought they'd find a way to play Youks, but at third with Olerud at first.

I love seeing Francona managing like he has two more months to play, which he does.

Maybe Tito was looking at Damon's solid numbers against lefties more so than the limited number of times he's faced Johnson. At least I hope that's the case.

I disagree about Tek though. He has great numbers as a righty, and has hit Johnson well in the past.

It's a mistake not to start Tek at DH. He kills Johnson, plus there are good left-handed pinch hitters and a third catcher (Shoppach) available if Mirabelli comes up in a key situation against a RHP.

In fairness, Tek has looked pretty terrible the last few days and looked like he needed a day off.

The Red Sox are in the midst of a long stretch of consecutive games here. I see no problem with giving Tek the day off when it's his normal turn to sit. I also like Youks at 1B. Lets hope he's not too rusty.

This game is way more important for them then it is for us, which is precisely why I expect the Chokers to do what they do best. Lets bury them today!

That's a very reasonable point, although DHing is a semi day off.

Moving on, here's a nice blast from the past about our fine opponent::

Play as Champions today Sox. The Yankees are unaccustomed to the pressure of playing from behind and facing such an uphill struggle. They will be tense and pressing - a bad combination against the knuckler.

And the nyyfans can't even get a gamethread going for today's game, or have they gone stealth to deal with the pressure?

Win today. One game at a time.
