Jacklamabe65, original thread starter, has upped this donation considerably.
He is donating a bound copy, signed by him, of the original thread; only the Red Sox and the Baseball Hall of Fame have copies, along with 5 other members.
Jacklamabe65 states this version is better because:
1) it is in sequential order from the first post to the last
2) it has every post in the thread
3) the best posts that were written were NOT submitted for publication because they were too private.
The value of this book is priceless.
Buy the soft-cover book, and you will still help K ALS!

Here is a summer's worth of reading from your fellow members!

Retail Value: $520+
Minimum Bid: $50

Note: If item is to be shipped to winner, shipping will be added to the winning bid. Winner will be notified with final price via PM and must pay for item via PayPal within 24 hours or item will go to the next highest bidder. [If possible I will get these to you in person, otherwise they will be sent media mail]

I tried to find him, but got to the wrong person, and no one seemed to be able to direct me to the right person. Someone PM me and we'll see if he'll join us!

Anyway, edited (again - and something tells me it won't be the last time!) to add 2 more books.

Candy, I can throw in a copy of The Maple Street Press Guide to New England Ballparks, which David Laurila and I co-wrote with principle author Tom Mason. I'd be happy to sign it, and I can certainly try to have David add his John Hancock as well (most likely at the Bash).

I'll also donate the cost of shipping this book to the winning bidder.

Retail Value: $30 ($22.95 for the book, $7.05 for postage)

I have one of the copies of the Win It For...

Take my word for it, it's something you really really want. There is something pretty awesome about having a raw book sitting unbound in the same format that lies in the Baseball Hall of Fame, is from a place I frequent and is one of only a few copies.

This item alone, with it's meaning, would warrant a $2000 bid IMHO. I'd literally pay that much for the seminal moment in Sox history for me which will undoubtedly ever be beat and in the format that we're most familiar with. I love hyperbole, but in this case it's not even close. The only way I can describe it is that when we got movers to move us to our new house a few years ago it was one of maybe 5 items I chose to transport myself.

Ditto. Shaun was gracious enough to hand me a copy when we met here on the Cape a couple summers ago, and it's something I'll always treasure.

He also gave me a copy to hand to Peter Gammons, though I've yet to run into him at a Cape League game. It's still in my SUV, sealed in Saran wrap, waiting for that moment...

There's also one very important thing that makes this bound version especially valuable. The last 40 posts of the thread were lost forever in a major EZ-Board server crash. Shaun had the foresight to print out the entire thread before that happened. That means the limited copies he has bound are the only complete versions of that thread in existence.

I know that this isn't exactly the place for this kind of thing...so I'll make it quick.

My paternal grandfather blessed my family with thick, Red Sox blood. Unfortunately, he caught himself a nasty case of the dementia in 2002.

A day hasn't gone by since that amazing 2004 season that my dad hasn't wanted to sit next to his dad; talk hours and hours about how the Sox did it; and end the teary-eyed conversation with a great, big, overdue manhug.

You see, they never had the greatest relationship. And I know that they rarely share an "I love you." But in my family, the men have always expressed their emotions through sports.

I can see my dad, sitting next to his dad, reading him "Win it for...;" each nodding in agreement, while sheepishly wiping tears away. Something tells me, Grandpa would remember that forever.

OH YEAH...$750.
