Dgilpin had a suggestion and I think it is an outstanding one. I am running with it. Thanks for the suggestion, Dgilpin.

However I think a really cool auction item would be a probationary 1 year membership for us lurkers to bid on. It would only be 1 year, during that time if it was obvious the lurker was contributing nothing positive to the site he would be demoted back to lurker status. However if he proved his worth during that time he could be considered for full time membership. It's just an idea that I think would create a lot of interest in the lurker population and generate some additional income for a great cause.

Let's do it.

I'm adding my own caveat to this one. Because of the shitshow that was the poker membership thing, I am adding the right to demote the winner at any time. This can happen even before the one-year probationary period is up. If this does happen, the winner agrees that the winning donation is non-refundable.

If need be, I'll act as a mentor for the winner. If anyone has any problem with the winner at any time, contact me. I feel so strongly about what we are doing here, that I'll take a leap and vouch for the winner's membership in advance. If a person pays whatever it takes to get on the board, I think they will tread carefully and a "mentor" will not be needed. If the winner does in fact reach the end of the one-year probationary period, then at that point it will be determined if he/she can stay on by all of the dopes. The vote must be unanimous.

Members cannot bid in this auction and their bids will not count towards the current high bid. This auction is not open to any previously banned members of SoSH (and believe me, we can easily find this out).

Any bid in this auction signifies acceptance to these terms.

Retail value: $.69

Bid early and often. This one ends on 7/26 at 9pm EDT. This is for one probationary membership and there can be only one.

If you win, I have two requests:

1) Prepare to hear from me
2) Don't suck

I thought $.69 was a reach. What can I say? I'm a half-full kind of dude.

One more thing for lurkers, you need to make a $5 donation to be able to bid in the auction.

Is this for real? I was wondering why you hadn't been posting in P&G lately. Then again, you're not on the fantasy league board much either, so I thought maybe there were personal issues going on.

As for this auction, I can't begin to describe how bad an idea I think this is. Then again, the eventual fallout should be somewhat entertaining for those of us on the periphery so maybe it's not as bad an idea as I think it is. Either way, Curt's Pitch gets $$, and that's all that's important in my book.

Considering some of the members we already have, I'm willing to take the risk. This probationary membership might only last one day.

Either way, the fallout/reaction/baiting of said noob should be worth something.

Totally agree with your last point - that is what it is all about.

ETA: I'm taking a risk here too. If this goes bad, it's all on me.

And a dueling "Prevent TRic from becoming a moderator" auction. Even if just for a day.

Fully agree. But if the issue is the amount of $$ to Curt' Pitch, this item would be of a longer time-frame (5yr? Lifetime?) without a probationary period (unless serious PN23-like antics occur).

Next month, I'm taking a job that will bring me outside of NESN's broadcasting range for the first time in my life. I was going to subscribe to the MLB: EI package next year, but I've decided to re-appropriate that money for a chance at a SoSH membership.

$170.

If I had that kind of cash laying around I would have tried to bribe my way into membership long ago.

I guess I'll have to sleep with someone instead... any members in need of sloppy, quick male companionship?
Possibly willing to 'switch teams' for a spectacular reference.

Thank you for registering. Sorry, we can't do a "Buy Now" option. The approach would not maximize fundraising for Curt's Pitch, which is why we are here.
