Didn't see an Adopt-a-Prospect page for Stolmy, so I figured if he's going to be in the rotation for Lowell, he should probably have one....

First the basics:

* Born February 1, 1990 in San Cristobal, DR
* Signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent in July of 2006

In 2007, was assigned to the Dominican Summer League, where he worked as the DSL Red Sox' ace. In fourteen games, Pimentel compiled a 3-1 record, 2.90 ERA, and sixty strikeouts in sixty-two innings pitched. Pimentel was selected to play in league's mid-season All Star Game.

After the one inning from Yeiper Castillo, Stolmy "started" the continuation of the game from yesterday (6/29). He went five innings tonight to earn the win against the Oneonta Tigers. He struck out five, walked one and gave up two hits and no runs.

Hits consisted of two singles. Pimental allowed one SB to the LF Christopher White, had a throwing error in the field and faced 18 batters.

Despite indications that Kyle Snyder was supposed to pitch tonight in a rehab assignment for Lowell, Stolmy got the start against the Jamestown Jammers. He went five innings for the no decision. Pimentel struck out five, walked one and gave up two runs (one earned).

Hits consisted of one HR from the Jamestown C Miguel Fermin and two singles. Stolmy had one CS of the RF Jeremy Synan and faced 19 batters.

Hits consisted of four singles. Stolmy had a throwing error in the field and faced 18 batters. The two unearned runs were Snyder's inherited runners.

The (seven) hits consisted of two doubles (both to the State College CF Ciro Rosero) and five singles. Stolmy had a wild pitch, allowed a stolen base and faced 21 batters.

UPDATE:

The Spinners pulled out a win tonight after the game was resumed. Stolmy was taken off the hook for the loss, and the book was officially closed on this particular outting.

John Sickels ("AL East Possible Breakouts/Sleepers"):

Perhaps one of the more obvious people, a clear first type, he had a decent year in the New York-Penn League (3.14 ERA, 61/17 K/BB in 63 innings, 51 hits). He already has good command for his age (19), has an excellent changeup, and has enough physical projection to boost his velocity past it's current 88-91 range. A push in dominance due to greater velocity would vault him up the charts, as long as he maintains his command. He could be a Top 50 guy if everything comes together.

Pimentel made his 2009 regular season debut last night, winding up with a no decision in Greenville’s season-opening 10-inning loss at Greensboro. He left the game in line to pick up the win with the score 5-2, but the Greenville offense fell silent and the bullpen couldn't hold the three run lead.

UPDATE, 7:30: Pimentel retired the first two hitters easily on a popout and groundout, but gave up a double over the center fielder’s head to Jeremy Synan, followed by a sinking line drive from Ben Lasater that a diving Pete Hissey couldn’t get coming in from center. The ball glanced off Hissey’s glove and allowed Synan to score easily. Pimentel got Kyle Skipworth to ground out to second on a 91 mph fastball to end the inning.

UPDATE, 7:55: Greensboro’s hitters have had a hard time figuring out Pimentel’s changeup and curveball, and he’s done a nice job of varying his attack. He struck out Isaac Galloway on three straight offspeed pitches in the second and has induced a good number of swings and misses and not much hard contact since Synan’s double. His fastball reached 94 mph on the stadium gun here, although Paul Gran lashed the pitch into left for a single. We’re in the fourth here, still 4-1 Greenville.

UPDATE, 8:25: Pimentel surrendered a leadoff double to Isaac Galloway on another ball that narrowly eluded a diving Pete Hissey in right center. However, Pimentel was unfazed and easily set down the next three hitters on two pop flys and a grounder to short. His velocity was still a solid 88 mph in the fifth. We’ll see if he’s done for the evening.

New pitcher for Greensboro, righty Bryan Evans. 5-2 in the sixth here.

UPDATE, 8:33: My suspicions were correct, and Pimentel is done after five. His final line: 5 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 8 H, 1 K, 0 BB. At least a couple of those eight hits were of the hard luck variety, and I’d certainly call this a solid debut for him.

Pimentel continues to defy odds; he gave up 9 hits and 1 walk over 5 innings, but surrendered only 2 runs (1 earned). He also struck out 5 and threw a wild pitch. His defense was a mixed blessing, helping him out with a double play in the third inning and hurting him with an error in both the fourth and the fifth (both by SS Ryan Dent). Pimentel was in line to pick up the win until Hunter Strickland imploded in the ninth and tenth after a passed ball allowed what would have been the game-ending strikeout to reach base.

Pimentel turned in his longest outing of the season on Tuesday, going 6 scoreless innings and picking up the win over Asheville. He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5; he was also helped out some by a defense that has often victimized him in the past:

• The first batter he faced led off with a line drive double to CF, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.
• The third out of the first came when Tim Federowicz picked a man off first following a 2-out single.
• In the third inning, Pimentel escaped a first and third, nobody out jam when he was able to catch a line drive up the middle and double the man off first, followed by inducing the next batter to flyout for the third out.

Pimentel continues his strong stretch, giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run while picking up the win at Lexington. He lasted 5.33 innings, walking 1 and striking out 6.

Quick Hits:

• Of the 6 strikeouts, 5 were swinging and 1 was called.
• Of the 4 hits, 1 was for extra bases (a double on his last batter faced in the sixth). It seems like he started to tire after cruising through 4: he allowed the first 3 men to reach base in the fifth inning; 2 singles, both of which were erased on the basepaths (the first was thrown out by Federowicz attempting to steal second, the second thrown out by Dening trying to stretch the single into a double) and the third batter was his lone walk of the game.
• The 1 earned run came in his last inning of work. As mentioned, his last batter faced doubled with 1 out in the sixth. Armando Zerpa came on and induced a popout for the second out, but gave up a single to allow the inherited runner to score before he could get out of the inning.
• SSS, but in his 4 appearances since his 9 day vacation on Lowell’s roster (1 relief, 3 starts) Pimentel has gone 3-1, throwing 19.33 innings with a 1.86 ERA, 20 K, 4 BB, 1 HBP. In that span batters have hit .254/.299/.338 against him. It bears watching to see if he can keep this up or if he reverts back to his April/early May form.

Thanks for catching that, there was an error in my spreadsheet.

On the year so far, Greenville as a team has given up 40 unearned runs and Pimentel has given up 30% of them while pitching to 10.3% of the total batters faced. Nobody else is in the same ballpark as that discrepancy.

Things can change, but as of right now, it looks like Hagadone on Tuesday, Stolmy on Wednesday and Huntzinger on Thursday. Would love to hear a first-hand report on any of the three.

Thanks for the info. Id be going through Greenville during there next homestand which is 19-21. Are they on a 5 man rotation having Hagadone go on the 21st?
