per Rotoworld

Red Sox called up 2B Joe Thurston.
Thurston gets the call over Matt Ginter, who has gotten off to a terrible start at Triple-A. Thurston was hitting .255 at Pawtucket, but hit .382 during spring training and impressed the Red Sox with his defense. He'll assume a reserve role.

Career #s
58 games (2002-05 - Dodgers, 2006-Phillies)

Thurston displayed his versatility in ST, playing 2B, 3B, LF, and RF if I recall correctly. He had a "web gem" on BBTN at LF, I believe.
Good call-up.

Finally, infielder Joe Thurston was assigned to Pawtucket, after going hitless in eight at-bats in four games with the Red Sox.

Can we stop bumping threads with week old news? First "Bryan Corey DFA'd" on the day he is called up and now "Joe Thurston called up" on the day he is assigned to AAA.

You really want me to start a new thread that says he was assigned to AAA. Really?

Stop playing thread police.

I don't see any problem with bumping threads like this one when they close the loop on something open-ended like a DFA. Thurston remaining in the organization and available for use later in the season is certainly of interest, as was the case with Corey.

Now I'll be the thread police and close this puppy up. ;)
