While I was very pleased with the Yankee victory last night and the game the Yankees played, I am not sure they would have won that game if it wasn't for Aaron Hill. And this seems to be a pretty frequent thing. So, for 2008 let's keep an eye on Aaron Hill and see how many games he plays a large part in losing (not just against the Yankees) for the Toronto Blue Jays. Thus far, Hill can be blamed for one loss.

There were at least two games towards the end of last season where he made some appalling errors that cost the BJs wins over the Yankees. The BJs were able to come back and win one of those games in extra innings though.

So by my count he has blown 3 games with his late innings defense in Yankee Stadium which have cost the BJs 2 wins since the end of last season.

I hate him.

He's well on his way to winning this lifetime achievement award. In fact, last night may have clinched it.

Bought, not earned. There were about $900 million in free agent contracts signed this past offseason. The Yankees alone were responsible for $450 million, or one half of that amount. The next time some Yankee fan breathlessly goes on and on about their team make sure you remind them of this fact.

Any chance McDonald starts coming in as a defensive replacement (not that we would have seen him in a tie game) in the later innings?

Come on, this is a horrible metric to use for fielding. Hill fares well in the objective measures. He's a good fielding 2B.

If McDonald came in it'd be for Eckstein, who isn't very good. In fact, given how terrible Eckstein is offensively, they shouldn't have signed him period.

Hill fucks up a play in the bottom of the 9th again. Leadoff man on for NYY.

In defense of Hill, he was fourth among AL 2B's in overall Win Shares:

Roberts - 24
Polanco - 23
Cano -21
Hill - 20
Ellis -20
Pedroia - 19

In defense of his defense, he was second among AL 2B's in fielding Win Shares:

Ellis - 8.5
Hill - 7.5
Pedroia - 7.1

Finally, (and on a somewhat random note), the Jays were 5-12 in games when Hill hit a homerun last year.
