Ortiz taking him deep in his first at bat against him as a Yankee in 2006 was a hell of a moment.

Not to mention the wind was blowing in and Papi hit it to one of the deepest parts of Fenway. What a shot.

I'm trying to understand the Gameday entry: did Thurston run in front of Lowrie? IOW, how did a ball hit to Lowrie deflect off Thurston?

It was hit at Thurston, he leaped, hit his glove, and he dropped it.

4 straight Sox reach base vs Mike Lincoln in the last of the 7th.

Chris Carter with an RBI single makes it 7-4. Lowrie coming up with runners on 1st & 3rd and no outs.

Sox have outhit the Reds 12-9.

Lowrie grounds out but they can't turn the DP. Ginter scores to make it 7-5 Reds.

LHP Adam Pettyjohn on to face Van Every, who grounds to first on a 2-0 pitch as Lowrie moves to 2B.

Dusty Brown up, now with a 3-0 count.

Takes strike 1 all the way, then pops a foul over the stands to bring the count full.

Line drive base hit to right-center. Lowrie scores to make it 7-6.

So Andrew has stopped giving updates.
Looks as tho MDC got them out 1.2.3, with a fly-out and 2 strike-outs.
Anyone got anything on the RS 1/2 of the inning yet?

Ban Him

Joe Thurston up with 2 down, takes the first pitch up & in.

Takes a breaking ball for a strike, then check-swings at an outside pitch.

Fastball on the outside corner makes it a 2-2 count.

Thurston pops up behind 2nd base, but the right fielder runs in to make a basket catch at the last minute and drops the ball. Brown advances to 3rd.

Brandon Moss up with a chance to tie it. Takes the first pitch for a strike, then foul tips strike 2.

Fastball high, 1-2 count.

Moss pops out to shallow left to end the inning.

Sean McDonough in the booth with Castiglione & O'Brien. Ripping Clemens now.

"The whole thing is pathetic, and he did it to himself."

"He threw his wife under the bus on TV in front of the whole nation. It doesn't get any worse than that."

"A lot of people have reminded me that my dad coined the phrase Texas Con Man, and wondered what he'd be writing about Clemens were he still alive today. He always got the sense that Roger always had trouble telling the truth."

I really miss Sean's pull-no-punches frankness.

Yup, totally agree. I guess that's why the Red Sox basically forced Sean McD out, he was never afraid to criticize the team and its management on the air, making him a rare on-air personality who was not a simple homer like most everyone else in MLB. But now the Red Sox have their yes-man in Don O who tows the party line exactly as scripted, except for his moments of buffoonery with Remy. Sean McD had a good chemistry with Remy and had plenty of humorous moments, but it never got noticeably stupid like with Don O. (personally I don't mind the laughing and breakdowns, but I know some people don't like it).

Reds down in order in the 8th. Sox coming up...

Kottaras lines out to CF on the first pitch.

Kielty up, takes ball 1 outside, then fouls out to the 3rd basemen down the left field line.

Keith Ginter up...

According to ESPN Clay Buchholz's name is actually spelled "Buckolz".

Sigh.

Ginter up with 2 out, takes ball 1 outside, then ball 2 high, then lines a base hit to LF on a fastball.

Chris Carter up, takes strike 1 down the middle, fouls the next pitch to the left out of play, fouls the 3rd pitch down the LF line, lofts a high fly-out to CF.

Side retired, still 7-6 Cinci.

That's a bunch of B.S. The Sox never forced Sean McD out. He wanted out. When the Sox didn't let him out of his contract initially, he acted like a whiney bitch the whole season. Sean McD was a good announcer (better than Orsillo) when he wanted to be the Red Sox announcer. For whatever reason, towards the end, he didn't want his job and it showed. He was pretty bad.

Josh Roenecke (Gary's kid & Ron's nephew) on to pitch. Held opposing batters to a .207 BAA last year.

Lowrie works a full count, then lines a base hit to left-center. Tying run on.

Van Every takes a FB for strike 1, swings & misses low & away for strike 2, takes low ball 1, grounds out to 2nd baseman who bobbles it off his chest but throws Van Every out on a close play.

Dusty Brown takes it low ball 1, flies out to CF, Lowrie holds at 2B.

Thurston takes low & away ball 1, check swings for ball 2, grounder deep to 2B the hole for an infield hit as Andy Green ranges to his left, but he spins and throws Lowrie out at home trying to score.

Game over. Volquez gets the win, Lopez takes the loss.

If I recall correctly, the Sox demoted Sean McD to the once-a-week Friday broadcasts on regular TV, that's why he wanted out. To me that's basically forcing the guy out.

It was my understanding that McDonough chose the once-a-week schedule. If I am wrong on that, I concede the point.
